big brake kits
i was wondering if there was any other brake kit besides the AEM. I want the two piece, but i guess they dont have them for our cars. Get at me if anybody know of any other kits. Oh yeah, for the carbon black AEM rotors, do they stay black, or they go to silver as they wear down??? THANKS.

ive heard that by adding a big brake kit your just adding to the weight the engine will have to move to get the wheels moving this lowering your accelerating, so are they mostly eye candy or are they only useful wehn your running high horsepower?

^^ Mostly, the only reason a person should get larger rotors for their car (In a performance application) is if they are overheating the current brake system. If its for looks, then what ever floats your boat. BUt if you are trying to get every last bit ov performance out of the car, then big rotors are a Last resort item (After you've tried every thing else to keep the brakes cool).
Moral is, if you arnt overheating the brakes, then a Big brake kit isnt what you want or need, to shorten brake distances. (Get some good tires and some good pads.)

i just insatlled AEM big rotor kit tonight. With AEM pads. Not sure if its the pads or the rotors , but it does stop better. Plus they have a nice look to them. didnt notice any performance decline but im sure there was a little bit prolly not enough to measure really. The look REAL good inside my 18's
I plan on doing the AEM big brake upgrade soon, cant beat it for the price.
The only thing Im worried about, is not being able to put my stock 15s on again...I mean, I dont plan on getting rid of the 19s but what if something went wrong...yada yada yada, just me worrying...Ahh

Choosing your brakes can be a tuffy. yes, it is possible to overload your wheels and add too much mass (thought this is usually accomplished faster with wheels and tires). The mass of the break rotor right around the CV shaft does less damage than the weight of wheel/tire on the perimeter spaced out from the shaft.
Big rotors aren't necessarily going to stop you a whole hell of a lot quicker. They will stay cooler and if you stick with street oriented pads that are designed for stop and go driving you may see a difference. If you increase the area of the rotor and the area of the pad (i.e. larger calipers) then you will see larger differences thanks to the increased surface area both produce.
Pad selection is also important- race pads won't stop well ont he street because they operate at higher temps, temps you rarely see on the street. Likewise don't use street pads while autocrossing as the higher temps with cause an increase in gas production and a tendancy to fade.
Whatver you do, don't forget to bed the brakes when you put them on. This will help increase the stopping power by transfering some material onto the rotors. May not help for the bling factor but will definately help with the 'whoa' factor.
