Brake Pad Type?
Hey everyone, changed my brake pads today and im having a problem with the new brake pads squealing. I got the R/M Brakes Quiet Stop disc brake pads for my 01' civic, they were made for it, and when I put on the brakes, they make a very high pitch squealing noise. It isn't terribly loud at all, but overtime ill get tired of it. Is this something that can happen with new brakes or are they the wrong type of pads?

yea, you should every time you use your brakes. Second, did you replace or resurface your rotors? Because if you threw on just pads, the squealing comes from not having the rotors turned.

didn't have the rotors resurfaced either. A friend of mine usually gets fine sandpaper and sands the surface of the rotor where the pad touches to remove the built up stuff on the rotor. Would that fix the problem? I am also thinking about getting some brembo slotted/drilled rotors for the front, im sure getting those would make the problem all better, though it isn't like I can fix the problem now with the OEM rotors.

For those of you that have changed your rotors to slotted/drilled rotors, does stoping distance improve dramatically? I found a good deal on ebay for brembo drilled/slotted rotors for $99 and im thinking of getting them if it is worth the money.

No, the rotors on ebay are regular brembo rotors that have been altered by third party companies, which means they have someone drill the holes in them. If you want brembo, order them from a known website or from brembo, not ebay.

well are the rotors off ebay just as good as brembo? For $99, I think that reguardless they will work well. Im sure if they come directly from bremob then they will be alot more expensive.

what I am saying is the rotors on ebay are crap because usually the company selling them on there has purchased brembo blanks, then have a third party drill holes and slot them. That right there makes the rotors crap because having a third party drill holes will make them crack, brake, or kill your pads. I would not recommend getting them.
I have a question to ask about brake changes. There is one pad on each side right? Or are there two pads on each side where the caliper is?
B/c when you buy the pads they came in pairs so that is all you need?
As for the synthetic brake grease you just put it all over the back of the pad and then insert it, making sure you didn't put it on the part that touches the rotor?

There should be 4 pads total, one on the front and back side of each rotor. As for the grease, it does not actually go on the pad. If you look on the caliper, on each end where the brake pad slides in on both the front and back of the caliper, there are little silver tracks. Each end of the pads fits into one of these tracks. They are the only chrome things actually on the caliper. Just grease up each silver track, clip, whatever you want to call it. It has nothing to do with getting the pad in easier.
