What is a better tire than OEM and cheaper
Ok, I need to replace all 4 of my tires, and I have been looking around. Getting rims and tires is out of my budget right now. Well I checked with firestone on our stock FR690 tires and they said they are $87 each. thats alittle more than what I wanted to spend. Does anyone know of a better stock tire to buy or just a better tire to buy and that might be cheaper. I want to spend about $300 or less. Also I want a tire that has a good looking sidewall.

Well, I liked my firestones, that is what I have on my car, the only thing I really didnt like was they lose tread fast. I want to find a different tire and maybe cheaper.

87 each is a crock of ****. 15" run of the mill tires should be much less than that.
Get Potenza RE950s... by far the best performance all season you can get.... $71 from Tire Rack.
Also scoring well in that category... Dunlop SP Sport A2 at $56.
I'd recommend either of those over Shitstones.
BTW... the FR690s were ranked 42 out of 42 tires in the All season class with a total score of 3.6 out of 10... somehow I don't think you want to buy them again.

Ok, after readling the reviews of the Dunlop SP Sport A2, I am probably not going to buy that tire because alot of people said that their tires wore out after only 12,000-18,000 miles and I wont deal with that, now after readling the reviews on the potenza RE950's, I might get those tires, thanks for the info Boilermaker

I asked this question before but didnt get any responses, If I chose to plus size to 205/60/15 would they fit on my stock wheels from the factory? And if so, would they be better or worse than 185/65/15?

What wheels do you have? 205/50/15s will fit on 15x6 wheels. I have them on my Si/EX wheels right now. Speedo reads approx. 1% too slow. You can check out the tire calculator.

Anyways... 205/60s fit. It'll probably flub out the sides a little, but you can get them on there. If you want a wider one on stock tires, go for 195/60s. Going to a wider rim, a 6.5 or 7" rim would make a 205 look a lot better and much more at home.

Yeah, you're right. I mean 205/60s read approx. 1% too slow. They look good on 15x6 wheels, but they do "flub out" a little. Turn-in response is somewhat slow. These tires would do better on a 15x6.5 or 15x7. 195/60s are pretty popular - this is probably the best bet if you're sticking with the stock wheel width.

edit - yes, the tires are better, but I'm sure that part of the reason the ones I got are better than stock is because stock is 185 and I got 205.

just bought some Kumho 716 HP4 for $36 each from Whalentires.com... Thats cheaper than on tirerack.com. If you read the performance reviews on them at tirerack.com you'll see that they're pretty fair. I haven't installed them yet so I can't tell you how they are. Best bang for the buck though.

The tires on my car right now are 205/40/17 Kumho Ecsta Supra and they're awesome tires, just kinda loud. I like the sidewalls b/c they're straight up, doesn't curve at the top. I think the sidewalls look fine.
