Question what wheel do I really want?

I thought that this was what I wanted, but I've heard so many horror stories about wheelmax that I'm going somewhere else with my hard earned money. The problem is, I don't have much money, and I want a very specific type of wheel. Im hoping someone here can help me figure out the model I want. Here's what I'm looking for:

Glossy black/gunmetal wheel with machined lip
17x7"
ODD number of either single or double spokes

The most important thing that i'm looking for is that the spokes are not on the outside. If you don't know what I mean, compare this to this. I want the first type. And price is a MAJOR concern. I'd like to keep it below about $130 a wheel. Im planning on Bridgestone Potenza RE950's for these, which is something like $520 for 4 tires. Thanks.

The first one is a knockoff of Volk SE37As. If there's one knockoff, there's gotta be more. If you're looking for that style, try the relatively new 5Zigen Heidfeld, its pretty similar. Or the Enkei RPM2, although I don't think either are in your price bracket. Konig makes one, I think its called the Theory, but I don't know what it costs.
I'm not sure I understand how you're willing to throw more money on tires, than the rims, but ok. Yeah, the tires are more important, but usually if you got the money to throw at tires, you got it to throw at rims too. I can't think of too many wheels that I would recommend for that size, in that price range. Konig Holes, RH Evo S7s, but they're gonna run more towards $150-$200 each.
Who knows...
Usually 2 things go out the window the cheaper you go... the strength and the finish. You'll find paint instead of powdercoat, it may or may not be even, and you'll find that the weight of the wheel goes up because they usually need more material to cover the lack of strength in the material. Konig and Rota are exceptions to the strength issue, they seem to do something right and just by shear volume can sell em cheap. Sure, you can still smash an expensive wheel, but you'll find that they can still hold air after taking a lot more punishment than the cheap ones.
Just pointing stuff out... but just be aware that you're getting what you're paying for. Might want to keep that in mind, save some cash up over the winter and just buy them in the spring rather than drive in slop them all winter.

i think im going to keep my stock steelies and tires for winter driving. Im thinking a lot about the prices, and its just that I need a good set of tires; I push my car around turns almost every chance I get (i need to stop; gotten me in 1 wreck so far), so I need all the traction I can get. Im going for a show car, so the weight really isn't an issue. I guess Wheelmax being the first place I saw sort of spoiled the price thing for me; they're really cheap. I won't be getting these until probably after winter even if I do decide now; lack of money. Thanks for the tips and links!

If you're beating it... the wheels DO have something to do with it.
1. If the wheels aren't strong, then they're gonna flex under cornering, slowing you're steering response.
2. If they're heavy, they'll also slow your response down cuz of the extra momentum rolling.

You need to have the rims and tires work together to get good handling. And even if you have a show car, it doesn't mean you cant have fun. All I'm saying is consider saving up and spending an extra $200 (that drops you into the very large $180 +/- $10 bracket) or so on the rims, it will be worth it, you'll get some rims that are 17 or 18 lbs rather than 22 lbs (that is HUGE) and you'll be glad you did it later.

Alternatives to Wheelmax that don't suck and have pretty good prices:
www.whalentire.com
www.1010tires.com
www.wheeloptions.com <--- they've got some great prices on the high end stuff, I'd imagine the middle ground is a good deal too
www.importhookup.com - its a deal forum
www.tirerack.com - limited selection of good and affordable, most of it is kinda pricey
www.gruppe-s.com - mostly JDM ****, but may sell RH Evo.
www.tires.com
There's probably more.
I know it doesn't fit your odd spoke discription... but Buddy Club has a line of cast wheels... they're 17x7, 17 lbs a piece... its the P1 Racing SF and the P1 Racing II Plus. The SF can be had in Gunmetal or White, the Plus can be had in GM/Polish or Hypergold/Polish lip. They're about $175 each.

ok, ive pretty much decided on the Tenzo-R Mean 6's. Im probably still going with the Bridgestone Potenza RE950's; i might get my dad to pay for some of the tires. About the show but still fun thing, I was planning on doing all go because I love to gun it and push it around turns and stuff. But after pushing it straight into a ditch and back out again, Im thinking that go is probably more hazardous to my health than show, so I changed my focus. Also, I luuuuv carbon fiber, and this gives me an excuse to have it all over my can (and inside it). Thanks for the advice.
