Im abit of a noob to suspension and wheel mods, so bear with me. I plan on getting these wheels from www.wheelmax.com . THe specs are here , but you have to scroll down the page. They are 17x7's, and my question is what tires do I need? THey have some on there, but my concern is that I want my speedometer to be as accurate as possible; therefore I want the overall diameter of these wheels to be close to the overall diameter of my old steelies and thick tires. So does anyone know what tread width and sidewall height I need?

Lastly, what all else do I need? I think I need new lugnuts, maybe a center spacer? Also, how much should a shop charge me to put the tires on the rims? Thanks.

oh, one more thing; how would I go about getting carbon fiber rims? Everything except the outer lip in cf? do they make any wheels like that? I couldn't find any.

Since you have ex, I would go with 215/45/17 , closest match with stock wheel size.New tires are 0.64% slower.Car will raise up 0.08 ". Are you planning to drop your car?(you should) Mounting and balancing should cost around 40-50 for 4 wheels. however wheelmax sucks. I wouldnt buy anythnig from them .

ive heard some bad stuff about wheelmax, but i looked in the 'wheel website reviews' thread, and people only had good things to say! Also, shipping is free. I plan on putting on Eibach prokit; lower it an inch. I have some monstrous speed bumps at my school that i drive over twice every day, so I cant drop it too far. Thanks for the link.

Probably people who are related to "wheelmax" . Ive seen enough bad reviews from that site. I dont want you to get into those crappy situations. But its your money. do what you like.

www.tires.com <---America's tire co. They have competitive prices and nice selection. I would try there first. I paid $1212.00 for a set of 17's with yoko es100 tires. Size 215/45/17 z rated installed with spacer and silver stem. Free rotations and balance for life of tire.

hmmm....ive reconsidered this whole wheel thing, and i think i may not get it from wheelmax =P. Im looking at discounttire.com , but they dont have much I like in my price range. Im going to post a new thread trying to find out what wheel I actually want; then I can use the tire calculator. Thanks.

I bought from wheel max, and had great service from them. Got my wheels shipped mounted and balanced with ventus 215/45/17 for 600 dollars. They were delivered 2 days before they said that I would get them. Call extention 1034 and speak to Stephanie, she went out of her way to help me with my order.

whoa! check it out; a set of 225/35ZR18's is the EXACT same diameter as the stock wheels...to the hundredth of an inch! I was thinkin about 18's anyway, but since they match up so well, im definitely getting them now. I still havent decided, though, between Wheelmax or not. I know the side that their Exel wheels are gonna be crap heavy, crap quality, and their customer service sucks, but then again I have heard several good reports, plus their prices will save me about $150 or $200. Also, most of the bad stories I've heard aren't that bad; mostly either customer service sucking or shipping taking longer than expected. Hey, I'll still get the wheels.

You'd buy rims and get them wrapped in CF. Carbon fiber is not stiff enough to make a rim out of. If you've ever seen it, it was just an overlay on the spokes.

ok; heres my next dillemma. Ive gone back to 17's, the 18s are too expensive both for the rims and the tires are more too. So im looking at the tire calculator, and the 215/45/17's would be 1.62% faster than my wheels right now. My question is, could I fit 225's onto the 7.5 inch wide wheel? If so, then 225/40/17's would set the spedometer .65% too fast, which is better in my mind than it being too slow. 225 millimeters is like 8.85 inches, but the 215 that was recommended is like 8.3, so is it ok for the tire tread to be wider than the rim?

I think you would have problems with sharp turns. Not sure though. I have 205/40/17. I know my speedo is fast, but I dont care. I have the nitto neogens. If I like them enough, I will get the 215/40/17 neogen and will be closer to the right tire size.

i looked, and i cant even find 225/40./17 tires. I guess they don't make them. Oh well, im planning the 17" Mean 6's with Yokohama ES100's right now (215/45/17). 1.6-something percent is close enough for me...and if I get pulled over, I can say that my speedo is inaccurate

I don't know why this is such a big issue.
The tire size for 17 x 7 wheels is 205/45/17. It's a rare size, but it's the RIGHT size. Kuhmo Ecsta Supra 712 carries the size.

I say go through whalentire.com I have had excellent service with them and they kick discount tires ace any day. I don't care much for the whole discount tire line, or the people that work there. They wouldn't match anything like they said they would, so I went to whalen I had to pay shipping but it was well worth it. Discount raises all there prices to pay for there free shipping. But yeah if you have a EX go with 17X7 with 215/45 I would rather lose a little mileage then gain miles on my new ride.
