Look ma, no tread....

So I rotated my tires again today... and realized that I should really invest in some that actually have usable tread...
Here's the front left....

I also discovered the width of the Civic HX's 14inch alloy rim...
Note, these firestone tires only have 19,000 miles on them, and I've already rotated them once....

I've got almost 27K on my Firestones... I've rotated them once, and then decided I'd rather not rotate them to get rid of them faster. They've still got life left in them, but they're such deathtraps I went ahead and bought new tires anyway. Should be in tomorrow - can't wait!! Finally a quiet ride and real cornering!

I put 38,000 miles on mine. They were the worst tires I have ever driven on. Bridgestone Blizzaks coming next for the winter, then for the spring, I have no idea what to buy.

Im going to get a set of 205/60/r14 Sumitomo 200's CHEAP, and good traction from what I'm reading.... They should be a welcome replacement over the 185/75/r14 Firestone piecies of ****.
Real quick, tell me how much sense it makes to get a firestone...?
Firestones,

Sumitomo 200's

YOU be the judge... here's the real killer, the sumitomo's ARE CHEAPER!

you probably could, Depends on the tire though. Some are wider then they say. (Falken Azenis in 205/550-15 are wider then many 225s)

Oh ya, If you want some super duper dry traction, Falken makes the Azenis in 14's!!!

195/60R14 to be exact.

i guess i should explain; im planning on some 18x7.5's, and if I get 225/35W18's, then the overall diameter will match EXACTLY my stock EX diameter; to the hundredth of an inch; crazy, if I can fit 225's on there.

Cheap cars come with cheap tires. I think the only Hondas that came with decent/good tires are the Acura NSX and ITR. For the car manufacturer it's another way for THEM to save money. It shouldn't surprise anyone though because car makers are aware of this, but are the consumers? Whether they are or aren't they have tires to get them to point A to point B (hence they are mostly all-season tires). At first, tires don't seem like much when you get into a brand new car. I'm sure 99% of all the people here who brought their car new didn't think to actually test the tires during the test drive, let alone examine them.

If the consumer is a spirited driver, what can he do? Expect the worse when it comes to stock tires. Or better yet, educate yourself on tires. Some people don't need to get into a car to see how suitable the tires are to them. It sure wouldn't hurt - a car doesn't go, or stop, or turn properly without tires (suspension doesn't work at it's best either w/o the proper tire) but I'm sure tires are among the first things to go overlooked.

FYI, If you were to buy a new M3 CSL you'd have to sign papers that say you understand that these tires will NOT work in the snow, rain, or cold conditions.

Sometimes, you get what you pay for.

I just bought new tires for my civic. i had the factory "15 tires for about 37,000 miles. i bought Toyo TPT's and i couldn't believe the difference. it was almost as if i were driving a new car it was so smooth. Here is a pic of them. i got them because there are going to be my winter tires and i'm getting new 17" rims and tires once spring hits. I got my set at about $385 and they are size 195/60/15.

5.5" rim? is that the DX? Im getting some Falken ZE-512's in 205/60R15 for my EX; there was a thread on those tires that said that they were amazing. And at tirerack.com 4 are only $172!!!! Here's the link:

Hehe. When I bought my used 2001 EX I saw the Firestones and figured that the previous owner had replaced the original tires already. I didnt realize honda would put such pieces of crap on their cars. I figured they would use some kind of michelin like they do on most other models. Hell, even the crappy XGTs that came on integras and civic SIs are worlds better than these things.

Ive owned many brands of tire and these are without a doubt the worst. Somehow they seem to do poorly in every area. Ride quality sucks, dry grip sucks, wet grip sucks (its like driving on ice), and road noise sucks too. About the only area they don't suck in is wear. Ive got 60,000 on the originals and still have a usable amount of tread left. I better replace these things before I have to deal with some real snow.
