If you have the Firestones they suck. I drove with them in the snow last year. You know how they're pretty crappy on the dry and when it's raining? It's the same when it's snowing.

So I hear that Falken FE512's are the best tire Consumer reports gave them the highest ranking and they're around $60/each. That's what I'm getting.

You could always get a winter tire, but the you'd have to change it when winter was over.

Think about it this way... you obviously know how bad the traction is in the dry. Now remove 90% of the traction on the road.
It can be done... just very carefully, without the use of 1st gear, and a little luck.

I drove on my stock Firestone for 38,1xx miles, down to the wear-bars. And on Monday I am having my Bridgestone Blizzaks installed.

Those are the front of my firestones, they lasted about 19,000 miles, all 3 wear bars are worn down too on the front, the backs are worn to the middle wear bar (yes I know I should lower my tire pressure, but then everything is so spungy...) Since this is the first passenger car I've really driven I have nothing to compare them to, but any tire you can break traction in with a civic in the DRY has to suck.

Yeah the stock firestones are awful, Do not attempt using them in the winter. I strongly reccomend some winter tires. Blizzaks are really good but I got some good year ultra grip winter tires and they are even better. IMO of course

My Stock Firestones were like a tobogan (sp?) in the snow. I replaced them with Michelin Hydroedge for a little under $500 installed w/free liftetime rotation and balancing. These tires are greeaaaat and I don't need to change them for the winter/summer. I feel glued to the road in rain, and best traction in snow I've ever had too. They have an 85k warranty too. If you can spend the money, they are worth it!

Not sure if I'm driving on Firestones or not (it's a 2003 Ex), but it snowed today and the tires SUCKED in the snow.

And no, I'm not talking about the pole ...

If they're stock, they're Firestones. (aka Shitstones.)

i have a 2002 EX with stock tires, i live in the northeat US, last yr i wish i had money to get snow tires, never did get them. We just now are getting over a huge snow storm, drove to work today and wished i didn't have to work because I NEED SNOW TIRES. The stock tire are AWFUL. No traction, trying to start from a red light up a SLIGHT incline in SLUSH because the roads were recently plowed, when i was passed by a pontiac sunfire driving by with ease i almost got out of my car and pissed on my tires. Tuesday i don't work, i WILL be buying snow tires, don't care if they are "cheap" ones, ANYTHING has to be better than the stock firestones.

I've put getting winter tires on hold because we just had a suprize snow and the Bridgestone Potenza RE92's (stock for 04 ex) weren't too bad.

yeah, you'd really have to be careful when driving in snow with the firestones. i've had them on for one winter and i was sliding around pretty badly. you basically have to drive like a grandma and you might be able to survive...

lol, dude I got the funniest mental picture when I read that. You just get out of your car in the snow and walk over and unzip and start pissing on your tire while other cars are driving past you. rofl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2k1 coupe and have had the same bad experience with the stock Firestones. I understand the lack of traction on ice, but even just a little slush and those tires are terrible.
