They do look nice by the way, were they custom painted a hyper silver color or is it like a chrome plating? They seem to glow in the sun.

When you design a racing rim, typically the emphasis is put on the strength of the rim and the speed of the car.... you usually don't upsize a hell of a lot. So if you make an 18" rim that weighs 18 or 19 lbs, chances are, you got enough horsepower and torque to require brakes big enough to need 18" wheels to clear them. So weight isn't necessarily an issue. Volks are designed to be thrown around. Both from the cyclic fatigue stresses caused by the wheel rotating and bouncing down the track, being forced sideways in corners (forged wheels flex more than cast ones), and impacts from hitting track curbs and the like. So stuffing an extra 3 lbs over that much area, isn't a whole lot, and if it keeps the wheel in one piece and round, track day after track day... its worth the heft.
Cast knockoffs on the other hand.... well first off, casting is less dense than forging. So that probably answers the weight question. That and forged wheels tend to have much higher load ratings. So just cuz yours are 2 lbs lighter... doesn't make nearly the difference as 2 lbs on a 15" rim, nor does it make yours better... cuz 666's LE28s are a hell of a lot stronger. Not to mention, you've got 2 lbs less of a less dense material, over a wheel thats 1" larger in diameter... so take less material, and stretch it to something bigger. You just made the rim thinner, more flexible and structurally weaker.
Besides, inertia increases in squares of the radius... so the 2 or 3 extra lbs on an 18 still has less inertia than a 19.
You'll find out how all of this strength stuff makes a difference when you hit a pothole some day... it'll all make sense.
