Post Wheel Circumference?

I'm in the market for new wheels and tires and would like to squeeze 18's on my car with the drop I currently have. To totally make sure, my buddy's coming over so I can test fit his wheels and tires on do to the fact he has 17's with a 45 series tire instead of my 17's with a 40 series tires.

Does anyone know if 17's with a 45 series tires are the same circumference as 18's with a 40 series? I know I could fit 18's with a 35 series, but I would like some tire for the ride and wheel protection.

The TIRE CALCULATOR would have told you a 215/40/18 is .15" larger in diameter than a 215/45/17. And you better make sure that the offsets are the same on the wheels you want and the ones he has.

I'm sorry this is problaby a real dumb question but what is the offset?

I'm figuring it's how wide the rim is plus where the bolt holes are in refeance to the entire width of the rim.

Nm, I found out, but could it be that diferant. I mean if the rims fits our civic's offset wise then it should be ok right?

Here is the test fit. Close but perfect no rubbing!

A Civic offset can be anywhere from 37 to 45 mm depending on the wheel. So to say one set doesn't rub doesn't mean all won't rub. You can probably stuff a 45 offset in and not get it to rub the fenders, but if you stick a 37 in there, I promise you it will rub.

The other thing... did you take the car out and throw it around? Make sure there is enough room for the suspension to travel and still clear... speed bumps included.

Well thanks to blown rear struts I just had some friends bounce the back end to make sure it cleared, and sure enough there was about a 3/4 of a pinkys gap. If the wheel bows out enough to rub when turning with even that much of a gap I have more probelems that just will 18's fit. :-). I have a camber kit and can turn it negative some more but don't want too. Eventually I will find a place that will shave the lip down so I can straighten them out more.

As for speed bumps, I never have to worry as if I went over one it would never reach the rear tires. I would lay the car on it. Too low!
