Anyway, what I was trying to say was---
OOOOOH YEA!! Awhile ago after replacing 2 of my stock firestones & finding out how damn expensive they were, I came to the realization that they were completely useless & I would probably get better performance out of the bare rims. So after a huge nail completely raped one of the good ones I noticed that the other 2 were pretty bald, & I found myself in a place to rid myself of the usless abominations clinging to the underside of my car. So now I am the proud owner of a brand new set of Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s 205/55/15
Holy crap, these tires are awesome & surprisingly cheaper!! The car drives & handles way better, it dosent feel like a toy anymore, & I can drive the way I like to without skidding into the grass, & can actually drive in the rain without fearing for my life!!! Im going to wash my baby this weekend so I should have pics up soon, nothing special really, but who cares.
I know, I know, pretty useless post, but im happy & this is the biggest thing ive done to my car, plus im bored & I think im due for a useless post, its been awhile so...

ya i like the kumho. i am on my second set right now with a different set of rims. they are fairly sticky, and they go great in the rain. i definally feel the difference with them on compared to the firestones.

the only thing i did notice about them was that on my 16s even after regular rotations and ****, they still had quite a bit of tread left, but they seemed to have lost thier grip, i dunno, it was wierd.

For a performance tire, you will Heat cycle them to death long before the tread on them wears out.
Heat cycling = Every time a tire heats up to opperating temp and then cools down, that Tread/tire compound gets slightly harder. Over many heat cycles, the tire compound may get so hard as to nolonger grip the road as good as new. From a perfomance view this means that a Tire will have warn out its usefullness Long before the actuall tread is bald.
Example: My race tires are a set of Falken Azenis sports, Excelent tires for Dry traction, and on the street should last about 10-15,000 miles. With me autocrossing on them they probably will last 5-10,000 miles as far as tread. However with heat cycleing their actuall usefullness as a Race tire will be over by about 5,000 miles.

^^ ok thats what happened then. they still have 50% tread left, but just from the touch you can feel how they are harder and slicker then before. i think all the ebrake burnouts at carlisle did them in.
Cool...I just got rid of my Firestones too. I got a set of 195/65/15 BF Goodrich Touring T/A tires for free
Gonna have to wait til winter to try them out though.
Anything is better than those Firestones.

Quiet? Not very.... They are race tires, masquerading as street tires. For dry traction they are very hard to beat with out going to a True R compond tire.

Just throwing in my $0.02 about the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's...
They're nice. I've been on them for about 25,000 miles and I still have tread left. That's after at least one burnout a day and redline shifting all day long and some e-brake sliding one a week and hard cornering. They have about 5,000 miles left in them I think. They'de have more if I didn't ride on them when my car had camber problems. Not the tread is worn unevenly.
Anyway, they're allright in the rain (definately better than the Firestones). They suck in the snow, but it's fun to learn how to control slides.
They rock when it's dry and they last forever. I'm sure that gripper tires would be, well... Grippier, but then they wouldn't last as long. The compound in these tires is rock hard when you don't push it, but when you heat these tires up they get sticky!
Um... What else... They're kinda noisy. Much more so than stock. That's about it though. There's a couple of other brands out there now that offer similiar bang for the buck, but some of these 712's have a treadwear rating as high as 360!!!
Some 16" tires I think?

My firestones are about to run out of usability, they have 17k on them right now, and about 1mm of tread left on them, I drive really hard on them. Now i'm looking to get some new ones, and was wondering, what's the widest I can go on my stock 14inch hx rims. My stock tire size is P185 / 70 R14. I don't care about ride quality, or road noise, I want a tire that really performs. It also has to be as good as the firestones in wet weather (in seattle it rains a lot) From the looks of things the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's look like a good choice. Does anyone have any advice?
