I seriously... seriously... seriously doubt you will. The tread is made for dry/wet pavement, not for snowy roads. It's best to get an all-season tire or a snow tire.

Sure you will. I did it. I also slammed into a snow bank (pretty soft, no damage) and I couldn't totally stop 'cause I wouldn't be able to get enough traction from a standstill (in certain places). It's possible though. LOL

I know, it never snows here. I actually can't wait for it to rain so I can test out my tires.

So... I was up on tire rack, and they don't make a kuhmo mx, for the 14 inch rim, so I was thinking of getting these http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....eModel=HTR+200 what do yall think, and I would get them in a 205/60/r14, which wouldn't throw my speedo off my very much, is this a good idea, or are there better tires to be had on 14 inch rims... sorry to ask this... kinda know it's off topic...

What's the width of the 14 inch rim... 6 inches? If it's a 14x6, 205 will fit.

As long as your speedo isn't beyond 4% too fast you'll be fine. Check the tire calculator.

They are an update of Sumitomos HTR 50, and from what I've heard they are a much harder compound. So, since the HTR 50 was a good STS classed autocross tire, I'd say that the HTR 200 would be decent for the street.

I don't care about ride quality, or road noise, I want a tire that really performs. It also has to be as good as the firestones in wet weather (in seattle it rains a lot) From the looks of things the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's look like a good choice. Does anyone have any advice?
Are you joking about the wet weather part? IMO, just about 90% of the other all season tires performs better in the wet than the firestones. But if you're satisfied with the performance of the stock firestones in the wet, i'm pretty sure you won't have a hard time finding a set of decent tires.

If you're looking for summer tires for dry and wet, try looking at Nankangs. They're pretty good too.

Might just be future cost effective AND cheap to buy some stock 15s with non-oem tires.

The HTR 200's are a good value because they do everything pretty well and they are so freaking cheap Before we put the big brakes & 17" Volks on our 5th gen Civic, we ran 205/50-13 (rear) & 215/50-13 (front) HTR 200's on the wimpy 5.5 inch factory 5th gen rims, so you shouldn't have a problem running 205/60-14's.

There are many better performing tires, but they cost a lot more -- you can also get the Yokohama AVS ES100's, which everyone (including me) says good things about.

Here's a pic of the Hatch with the Sumitomo's...

it is tough finding anything good in the 70 series, but since 205/60/r14 is only 2.8% different, I figure that's close enough. This tire size gives me a couple of better options. I'm gonna do some more searching before I finally decide what I'm going to do. Thanks for you input as well BigDaddyHonda.

I've never owned the Falkens so I can't give you a comparison from personal experience. From what I've heard, they are exactly what Zzyzx said - a good all around tire at a cheap price - in the same category as the Sumitomos. The Falkens are also a very big seller.

"Sumitomo tires and they gotta be runflat." -Big Tymers

Anyway, I've had my Kumho Ecsta 712s for about a year now, with probably around 15,000 miles on them. I still have a lot of tread left, but I do definitely hear that its louder. In the rain these tires grip like crazy. They grip so much that I have to pull my e-brake so that I can slide around for fun. In dry weather I take corners and on/off ramps pretty fast, and these tires have never let out on me. I've never heard them squeal on corners. I have 205/40/17 and they're really harsh on the daily driven road. My next set will definitely be 205/45/17s (hopefully Kumho makes that size).
