Safe way to change tires?
Safe way to change tires?
Ok. Heres my story. I was at a coin-op carwash on Friday night washing my car. When I was leaving I ran over something in the parkinglot on my way out. I heard it pitter-patter for a little while before It flung off and ricochet off the wheel well. I inspected the tire when I stopped and it seemed fine. But when I went to go out Saturday afternoon DUN DUN DUNNNN... it was flat. So I put the donut on and drove to the dealer since few tire shops are open Saturday afternoons/Sundays. They charged me a silly amount of cash for the tire and told me to come back in an hour and a half. I picked it up, payed for it and went home. When I looked at it closely in my driveway, there were scratches around the outer edge of the rim. Not horrible gouging or anything, but still, these were noticable scratches and scuffs.
Now... arent modern tire machines supposed to NOT TOUCH the outer surface of the rim?
What are the odds of the rim getting blemished? 1 in 1000? 1 in 100? 1 in 10?
Who should I trust to do my tires? Keep in mind I live in Canada, so we might not have some of your fancy automotive chains.
I mean, this really pisses me off. I planned to sell these rims in the spring. But now they arent worth JACK **** in my opinion if one of them is blemished. I constantly cleaned and polished these rims by hand using the best products just to have one of them butchered by the dealer. I thought It would have been safe in their hands.

Find a place that has "touchless" mounting, or someplace that will put rubber feet or a rag over the rim so there is no metal on metal contact. I'm spoiled cuz I take my OZs to Tire Rack, but try to find a place that deals with Dubs and 22's, etc... they're probably more careful due to chrome and the price of them.

are you sure? its pretty hard to notice a flat imo unless your on a turn..do u have low profile tires? ever drive on a flat tire wit a low profile? its almost impossible to tell.... unless turning hard...
also yea.. it was the shop.... some places have shitty tire removale machines.. actually. OLD ones... with metal retainers... newer ones have rubber ones..
I am 100% sure that I was not driving on a flat last night. I have the stock Firestones on there and they arent exactly low profile. Earlier today it was REALLY flat. The whole car was slanted. It was a slow leak and the puncture was on the corner of the tire so they said its not a good idea to patch it. I agreed.
Im going to go in on Monday and ask some questions. A brand new massive 2 building dealership should be able to afford a state of the art tire machine.
