Question about Tire size
i just got my 17" rims today in the mail and have a few questions about tire size. the rims are 7" wide. I am planning on getting 205-40-17 tires. will these fit? where does the rim width come into play with the tire size? thanks for the help.
Here are some threads that should give you enough opinions on whether 205/40-17's are right for you:

You can go to the Tire Rack site or the manufacturer's site and click on the spec table for the tire you are thinking about. It shows the recommended rim width as a range, usually like 6.5" to 8".
If you get 205mm or 215mm on a 7" rim you don't have to worry about rim width
