um, crusty rotors?

so i've had my car for about over 5 months now. and i put on my new wheels today. i take off my stock wheels to find my rotors, or more exact, the peice that the bolts are comin out of, is all crusty and rusty. even kind of peeling. is this deterioration common? and so fast....i mean my car is pretty new... thanks.

They're cast iron. Iron rusts. It's totally normal.

Yup, it also stains the rim you put it on.

I noticed the same thing when i took off my stock wheels. I used a dremel and a fine grit sand paper to remove the rust on the hub. WEAR A DUST MASK! trust me. Iron oxide dust was still coming out of my nose when i sneezed days later. Anyway, once the rust is removed, I polished the hub surfaces with Magic Wadding Polish. Finally, I applied three coats Rust GuardIT (I forget who makes it) being careful to not get it on the rotors!

THe Rust GuardIt works well. I use it on firearms with good results. So far, it's been two months and many carwashes and my hubs still aren't rusting. Ordinarily, I wouldn't go through all this trouble to make them look nice, but my Rota Slipstreams have holes by the lugnut holes that expose the hub. They'd look pretty crappy mounted on a rusty hub.
