Hybrid Winter Engine Warmup
Hello, I'm new here and am seriously considering a 2025 Civic Hybrid Touring Hatchback. I have a very short commute (4 miles each way) and am concerned that the engine won't warm up completely during the winter. Does anyone know about this? I'm thinking it wouldn't be able to make the whole commute on just battery power alone. I'm not well-versed on hybrids, as this would be my first one.
Re: Hybrid Winter Engine Warmup
I'm not sure the car would warm up completely during normal weather, either. Your coolant, possibly, but I don't think your oil would.
The brief reading I did suggested the car can go 47-ish miles on full electric, which means it's probably close to 35. Either way, sounds like plenty to me.

Re: Hybrid Winter Engine Warmup
The engine itself will warm up about as quickly as any other internal combustion engine over a 4-mile commute but it will take much longer for the battery to warm up. So the car will be powered by the engine/generator/drive motor combo -- unless your commute includes some higher speeds where the motor would engage directly with the wheels via the clutch.
However, with this car it doesn't really matter whether you're running off battery or motor because it just does whatever is most efficient and it's all in the background. You just drive the car and don't worry about it!
I let mine warm up for 5 minutes in the driveway to give it a head start and I use the seat heaters to help with cabin comfort when it's cold.
