Got lucky and found one literally being unloaded off the truck. Sonic Grey Pearl. So much fun to drive. When the finance guy was trying to sell me all the 'protection' packages he said if a headlight bulb goes out the entire headlight has to be replaced at $2400 each - is this true? Hoping I made the right decision, and that this car will be bulletproof. This looks to be the best forum out there so I can't wait to digest all the sections.

He was probably stretching the truth in saying that. If there are 30 LED’s in a strip and one goes out yes I suppose you would have to replace the whole assembly but LED’s last a very long time. Plus you still have 29 other good ones.

Thanks Gol, makes sense, I never thought of them being in strips. I am now at peace. I’m curious if you can open the housing to get them or if it’s somehow sealed from the factory?

all of them are sealed from decades ago
just need to place them into an oven, heat and open them up. That's what's done when they do an HID retrofit on the older halogen cases

Yeah the older headlights could be opened but if they are like the ones on my GTI you have to cut them hence why I have not done a retrofit on my GTI. You won’t have to worry for long time tho.
