Adding Front Map Lights to a Honda Civic VP
Adding Front Map Lights to a Honda Civic VP
Has anyone done this mod? If so, are the screw holes or brackets already built in or attached under the ceiling carpet trim? I know I'd have to cut in order to get the new lights to fit and that I'd have to wire them up, which is not hard. I did not see this particular mod when I searched for new mods on the Civic. Just wondering if anyone has done this before. I can get the map lights cheap, but was wondering if the brackets were already there...

I wi be going on Friday. I will take out the front map lights and see what's under there.

Re: Adding Front Map Lights to a Honda Civic VP
The ivory headliner I have is actually somewhat rare and hard to find, especially in good condition.
I want to pull down the headliner and see if there is a plastic screw bracket underneath on DX models ir VP models.

Re: Adding Front Map Lights to a Honda Civic VP
So I got the front map lights, and am hoping to pull down the ceiling headliner to reveal two areas where the screws go in my car. I have the maps lights that I plan to install later next week once the car gets back from paint.
Re: Adding Front Map Lights to a Honda Civic VP
So there is only one wire connected to the front map/reading light assembly, and that wire color was WHT/BLU. It's grounded by the screws that hold the assembly in, which is a great design. I just hope that on my VP that those screw holes are there when I pull back the headliner.
Re: Adding Front Map Lights to a Honda Civic VP
So I'm fairly annoyed at this point.
The sail panel and the tweeters I bought from the junkyard came from a coupe. The side mirrors too. They won't work in my car. The sail panel is smaller in the coupe than in the sedan. So if you do this mod, find a tweeter pod from a 2005 EX SE sedan, if you have a sedan. Also, don't get the side mirrors from a coupe to try to put on a sedan. The mounting points are different. So much for a remove and replace (at least from a coupe to a sedan).
In addition, the front map light area under the ceiling area by the rear-view mirror on the DX and VP sedan and coupes DO NOT have the mounting holes for the front map lights. So that means that I have to cut the ceiling headliner and glue the lights to the headliner and then wire them to a fuse under the dash. I have no problem running wires, which is easy, but the lack of mounting points is disappointing. Not sure why they couldn't have included the screw holes, just under the headliner.
