Civic question

I have a 05 civic coupe with a vtec engine. I’m looking to do some modifications to my car. I’m a female so the people I’ve asked locally have been giving me nonsense like put fuzzy dice, put pink in your car or that I’m going to have to take it to someone who knows how to fix cars to do it. I wanna learn how to do all of the modification myself so I won’t have to depend on someone else to do them. I’m looking to make my car louder, faster, and look a lot more “sporty” . So far I’ve added an intake, modified my exhaust to make it a little bit louder, tinted my tail lights and looking to get my windows tinted. Anything helps, thanks 🙂

Re: Civic question

As of right now I’m not too sure. I def want to replace my stock tires, get a body kit And coil overs. Just have no clue where to start, where to find them nor where to find them.

Re: Civic question

If you're looking to replace rims, too, IMO 17's are the perfect size for the EM2 (01-05 coupe). That's what I had on my 2002. Find rims that have an offset between ET38 and ET44 and a bolt pattern of 4x100 and you'll be solid. I've personally been looking on fitmentindustries.com for rims for my 2018, specifically the OptionLab R716 in bronze. If you wanna upgrade your rims, make sure you pay attention to the weight of the wheel. If you go heavier than stock, it's gonna make your car feel a bit more sluggish. You'd be adding more rotational mass for your engine to overcome.

But, what you specifically asked about...
  • Tires, I've always gone to discount tires for my stuff. Really depends on how much you wanna spend and what size rims you're gonna put 'em on. If you plus size, do your best to keep the overall diameter of the tire as close to stock as possible. IIRC, the 7th gen EX came with 185/65-15's stock and the LX came with 185/70-14's. For 16" rims, 215/50-16 tires and for 17's 215/45-17s would be the optimum choice. Just so it doesn't mess with your speedometer/odometer too much. wheel-size.com is my online tire calculator of choice
  • Coilovers, I had a really great experience with Tein coilovers. Had Some Tein Super Street coilovers (adjustable height, adjustable dampening) and they lasted me a good 13.5 years. They were actually on the car when I finally called it quits trying to fix her up. Tein has since replaced them with the Street Advance coilovers, much more reasonably priced than the Super Streets I had. I've heard too many horror stories about raceland coilovers, and my thing is I'd never cheap out on anything that a) connects/keeps my car off the ground or b) keeps my car from hitting other things. Suspension, wheels, tires, brakes. There is a difference between being frugal and being cheap. If you find good quality parts for a good price, go for it. If you're buying something just because it's cheap, research the ever-living **** out of it. Also, when you buy something, don't just buy it to get it. I learned that the hard way. Save up and get something that'll stick around on your car for a while, otherwise you'll end up spending more money replacing things over and over again
  • Body kits, that industry has kinda fallen quite a bit, and the selection isn't quite as vast as it was back in the mid 2000's. Extremedimensions.com is still around, and they have a few kits that'll fit your car. I was eyeing the B-2/BC2/Buddy club 2 style kit for the longest time, but never bit the bullet. It's not overly flashy, but different enough to notice.

As far as sites for aftermarket parts...
procivic.com
carid.com
thmotorsports.com (I used to frequent this site a LOT in the mid-late 2000s)
evasivemotosports.com

or, just google search whatever part you're looking for (e.g. "2005 civic coilovers")

Whatever you do, keep this in mind. Modding is all about your personal tastes and style. No matter what you choose, someone is gonna give you **** for it. Put stuff on your car that makes you happy, f--- all the haters. You do you.

edit: added tire stuff
