Rep Power: 0 Noob looking for engine advice
Looking to buy my first Honda car and I know nothing about them. I'm right now looking at a prelude sh with the h22 motor and a 2002 civic coupe ex with the d17a2. I've heard that the h22 engines are good and that the d series are trash and have no modding potential. Is the d17 worth putting money and mods into?
I guess my main question is which engine should I be looking for and what would be a good way to enter the Honda scene? I won't be doing any engine swapping but easy mods like intake, header, exaust etc.

Your first sentence starts off as a lie as your second sentence clearly shows you do know something about Honda’s..
The people that put turbos on Honda’s are very happy with power gains.
The modern truck, suv, minivan next to you blow you away if they cared to floor it even with every bolt on mod.

I would Highly suggest getting a vehicle with a B or K series engine; with the vtec option.
Thought the H is 2.2L it is not set up to make power like the flagship engines.
I just picked up a B16 (non vtec) integra with 382,000km, and it is noticeably faster then a stock d17a2, it cherps the tires in 2nd and 3rd, with an old worn engine and no vtec, due to the torque increase over the D series engines as well as a bit more power. If it had vtec I'm sure I wouldn't be able to sell it after the race car comes back on the road =D.

D17's have potential but it depends on what gains you are looking for, right now I have one boosted and and very happy with. Definitely not a drag car but very fun to drive.
