8th & 9th gen interior modifications
8th & 9th gen interior modifications
So I’m redoing the entire interior of my 2012 Honda Civic Lx sedan as apart of my “inside out” project I’m working on for it.
My questions is I want to install a racing style bench seat in the back and there’s one I have my eye on. It’s the EMPI race trim 51” rear bench seat with adjustable headrest. will I have any problems installing this since it was originally made for a VW?
another question is, since I’m in Ohio and we have to take our cars for inspection before we renew the registration for it. Is there any way for me to put airbag sensors on a racing seat? Since I plan on getting matching seats for the front seats.
I like this seat in particular cause it appears to give more space for the back seat since it’s not as plush. It also is close to the look I’m going for. im trying to go for a “futuristic” all black luxury car for the interior. If there is a alternative for a low profile, black, bench seats made for Honda I would love to know it.

Re: 8th & 9th gen interior modifications
I doubt it will fit but...I'd start by removing the rear seat and measuring where the mounting points are. The seat you are interested in tells you the mounting point locations, see below.
For the air bag you will have to trick the system into thinking one is hooked up.
- Overall Width: 51"
- Overall Height: 25"(includes tabs, without headrest)
- Shoulder Width: 49"
- Mounting point side to side: 44"
- Mounting point front to back: 14.75"
For the air bag you will have to trick the system into thinking one is hooked up.

thank you! Yea from the looks of it I think I’ll have to fabricate some kind of new mounting point. I did see that they do custom work so I emailed them to see if they would make a custom seat to fit the mounting points I need. From the measurements the seat itself will fit but my big consent is how to secure it. My friend said to just glue it down but idk how I’ll feel about that.

Gluing it down is a good way to kill people if the car was ever involved in an accident, the custom seat may cost as much as the car is worth
Re: 8th & 9th gen interior modifications
he was talking about industrial glue. Not like hot glue lol. But yea the car isn’t worth much to other people. It’s worth more to me. So I might as well work on it and make it a car I enjoy driving. Since I have another car (Dodge Challenger) that I can drive during the summer, now is my time to work on it.
Re: 8th & 9th gen interior modifications
not 100% sure yet but repainting is definitely in the books. I’m looking at body kits as well and new wheels to put on it. My overall goal is less is more for looks and to make it as comfortable as possible to drive since this is the car I use for long drives. After the interior I plan on moving to suspension and some engine mods. A small turbo and a tune for fuel efficiency might be in the works too.
Re: 8th & 9th gen interior modifications
Since you have a Challenger I would just keep the engine stock on the Civic for DD use.
Do not glue the rear seat in. It is bolted for a reason.
If you want less is more:
Wheels
Drop it
Lip kit

For the money you’re looking to put into the civic, that’d be a pretty serious challenger.
I’m not sure the interior setup you’re looking into would be any more comfortable than stock.

well a little more about the car. It was in a flood at once in its life. Everything physically is good with the car except the carpet needed to be replaced (which I’ve done) but I want to streamline the look. To go as clean looking as possible
Re: 8th & 9th gen interior modifications
Right, I’m also kinda doing this to learn some new things and just cause I can lol.
