A/C loss of power and Squealing
A/C loss of power and Squealing
1999 Honda civic ex/(CAD)Si
d16y8 manual
- - - hey guys , so recently went and got my A/C recharged and a low vacuum line installed (previous owner used rubberizing putty to “seal” a leak) and on the way home noticed significant power loss when I get on the throttle with A/C on. As soon as I turn the A/C off the power returns to normal (we’re talking like 50% power loss). Got it home and parked it, as soon as I turn on the a/c the idle starts to surge between ~400-1200 RPM (goes to normal once I turn a/c off. Went to see if the compressor was seized and it spun with a small bit of effort with spots where it seemed to catch/ drag around the same spot.
Here I am a week later driving home, a/c on, and I step on it in second. as soon as it got to around the 3500 rpm range I hear it start to squeal for a few seconds. Got home, took it out of gear and throttled it from under the hood and was able to replicate it from there, turned off a/c and did the same thing and no noise.
Does anyone know where I would even start to look? Thank you!
(P.S A/C was not overfilled saw for myself that it was vacuumed and filled to 1.43 LBS. (0.6KG)
the belt is also fairly new and doesn’t feel loose
EDIT: my dumb *** forgot to mention that while I was giving it throttle from the engine bay, I noticed that the compressor would disengage/stop turning after letting of throttle every time. Is this normal?
