Maintenance
Maintenance
so i got an 05 LX AT and i wanna do some maintenance to it becasue i want it to last for the next few years, maybe 2-3ish (instead of throwing thousands and dealing with a new car) and i want to do a few things to it
replace cam end plug, spark plugs (didn’t put the right ones in last time lol) and ignition coils (waiting for these to be shipped rn)
and i want to know if it’s a good idea to flush/change my tranny fluid. cars at 248k kilometres and i don’t know if the previous owner has ever changed it and i know i haven’t myself, had the car for two years now.
Brake fluid: it’s black lol. should i do a complete flush? same with coolant reservoir tank, my rad cap blew and now it’s full of oil and other crap, coolant is still green and been checking it intermittently and there’s no death sludge in it. should i replace the tank as well?
^ same thing with my power steering. that crap is like black as well lol

Re: Maintenance
drain and fill on the tranny only. Don't flush it. If you need to, do a few drain and fills
Ignition coils should last the life of the car and then some. Any reason why you're replacing them?
brake fluid and PS fluid.. Not gonna lie, My 2002 went the life of my car (which was only 205k) without servicing either of them other than topping off when bleeding the brakes when I switched out to braided brake hoses. I never had any braking or steering issues, so... yeah..
Coolant, wouldn't hurt to flush that out. You could take it a step further if your overflow is full of crap and take that out and clean it out all nice and pretty. Just make sure you burp the system completely (park on an incline, fill up the radiator, start the car with heater on full blast, keep topping it off until no more bubbles appear, then let it idle for a lot longer to make sure all the bubbles are gone). I'm more concerned about your radiator cap blowing since these D17s have a nasty rep of blowing head gaskets (I saw 2 blown head gaskets in 205k -- one at 127k and the one that did her in at 205k)

i think might just leave my brake and ps then, save the money etc. i think my head gasket is ok tho cuz my coolants been staying green. is there a drain plug for the tranny? i’ve never actually looked. how would i go about cleaning the coolant over flow tank?

Re: Maintenance
You'd have to disconnect the black hose that comes off the rad cap neck and I think it's just like.. one or 2 bolts that hold it in. Then it should lift up and out
Re: Maintenance
Good call if they're crap aftermarket then. lol
There has to be a drain plug for the tranny. Couldn't tell you where it is, since I had an MT.
