Need Help With Amateur Forced Induction
Need Help With Amateur Forced Induction
One of my friends wants to put a cheap turbo kit on his Civic this summer. He has about $750 to spend on the project and is only looking for about 5psi. Does anyone have any suggestions on a kit or turbo we should consider?

Oof. That's a really low budget. Tuning alone will prolly be half of that, if not most of it.
Cheap, fast, reliable. Pick 2.
Frugal, sure. Cheap, don't waste your time. It'll cost you more in repairs than it'd be worth.
Edit:
The make or break of a turbo setup, no matter how little boost, will be fuel management. Air/fuel controller will likely be at least 200 bucks. Dyno tuning, when I was shopping around way back when, was in the realm of 100-150/hour. You'll definitely want a wideband afr, and those will prolly be at least $200-300. Aaaaand there goes the budget. Get a cheapo turbo kit on eBay, we'll say $500. And that's lowballing it. Now, if you're not performing a diy install, expect another $500 there.
