1989 civic b18b1 to gsr

I bought a 89 civic sedan that already has a b18b1 swapped into it. I've been wanting to swap a different engine into the car because I'm sure the current one has bad rings, I've been thinking about doing a gsr swap, would it be simple? Would the mounts be the same? Would I have to change the harness? I've already decided to get a hondata and get it tuned so ecu isn't a issue. This is also my first time posting on a thread so I'm looking for as much input as possible.

Never done it myself but you have a b series and you're putting in another b series so I don't believe you'd have to change mounts, harness may be different but it might not be

Harnesses are different (GSR has VTEC, LS doesn't). The mounts that you have will work.

Now's the perfect time to do LS/VTEC.

I would go ls/vtec but I'm worried that my piston rings are bad and I don't have the time or place to rebuild it. Would I just have to swap the harness if I went gsr?

Well, LS/VTEC basically requires a new bottom end, so I guess that’s out of the question.

I’m pretty sure you only need to swap the harness. I’d try to find a trans too because the gearing is a lot sportier from a GSR trans, but you’d be fine with the one you have now.

Also, what makes you think that it's a piston ring issue?
