stupid car wouldnt start

first time in a long time, i go to start it up and it just keeps cranking and sputtering til i let the key go. i tried again thinking oh it will fire up quick and no, it cranks and sputters finally it got going but i thought the rpm was gonna bog down again. it drove fine, im hoping its gonna start to get back home. what could it be? never had a prob like this in months. i guess i can change the plugs later, but i doubt thats why. maybe bad luck again>
