Hey everyone so I have a question I bought a exhaust way back it’s a fart can and I think 4 inch exhaust it was for a hatchback and when I had it on for awhile when I was driving there was a drone noise it was loud outside the car but inside aswell couldn’t really hear my music or other people in car. I was wondering if it’s cause the tip was under bumper and tip wasn’t out back end of bumper or what not. I’m wondering if I gotta extend the piping to fix that loudness inside the car or not I have a different exhaust on it for now but would love to put my old one on if I can fix the drone noise any help is appreciated thanks!

Re: 1998 civic exhaust drone
It's because you have a fart can and no resonator. Add a resonator if you want to get rid of the drone. Or sell the fart can setup to some stupid kid and put a stock exhaust back on

i have a resonator on it but I was thinking maybe cause the exhaust was for a 98 hatchback civic and the tip being under car maybe the noise was bouncing from under body of car and pavement to create that loudness inside cabin. I have a other exhaust on it atm that’s quite but loud when accelerating but was wondering if I extend the piping and made tip stick out more if that’d fix the loudness in cabin
How far under the car? If its only a couple inches it won't matter
it’s like abit far from exhaust cutout on rear bumper it’s like more underneath then it’s suppose to. Best pic I have of it when I had it on a few years ago
It appears to me that the car has lost at least one resonator through this swap. That'll be why it's droning, not to mention fart cans just don't do quiet.

i have the resonator that came with the exhaust kit when I bought it and I know they don’t do quite but was hoping to get rid of abit of the loudness inside cabin of car as it’s hard to hear people inside car and was just wondering if it’s cause exhaust is more under car then it’s supposed to and the noise is bouncing off under body and pavement or not. I made a account to get other’s opinions to fix it or what not but I appreciate it

That's just the nature of a fart can. Not much you can do other than just getting a better exhaust. I know that's not the answer you want but it is what it is.
I don't recall ever seeing a resonator in the pics you shared. Would you mind showing me what that looks like? If it looks anything like the catback here, it probably resonates about as well as a straight pipe.
