D16Y8 Tick
D16Y8 Tick
Hey guys and girls, I need help I have done so much and go so far. I'm still a little new to Hondas, but I have a tick in my D16Y8 and I can't for the life of me figure it out. It all started on Thanksgiving of last year and I've been out a car ever since. I was on my way home coming up a good sized hill keeping pace about 70 and half way up it lost power for only like a second and kept going ever since then it developed a tick I can't explain it it's like a clicking sound mixed with a tick and it's only apon acceleration, and is constant.
I have done the following.
-A new used head partially cleaned out.
-Switched injectors from my head to that one because the ones that where in it had a lot of carbon build up.
-Changed plugs.
-New Gaskets.
-Fresh oil change.
-Valve readjustment.
-Timing belt.
-Put back in time as far as I know.
The only thing that is different from the 2 is that I can't figure out where my outlet for my denzo runs because on my head and intake it runs into the intake on this one it doesn't have one.

Re: D16Y8 Tick
Manual or automatic transmission?
The ticking noise may be due to the cylinder head's Lost Motion Assembly. Does it sound like this?

Use an auto-stethoscope, 3/4" pvc tubing, or long shaft screwdriver and listen for the ticking sounds on your engine while running. Abnormally loud fuel injector pulses can emulate a ticking noise. Failing metal rotational parts such an inner CV axle joint or outer CV axle joint. Test outer CV joints by doing full-lock steering wheel turns at slow speeds. Inner CV joints (to differential) might have slipped out a bit? Inspect them and carefully use a pry bar between the inner axle and differential check for looseness/seating.

Re: D16Y8 Tick
It's an auto and would the lost motion assembly be doing it only on acceleration and it's an auto I've listened around and it sounds like the noise is coming from the injectors but what I was thinking cause I changed the injectors to my old ones and the noise got quieter but is still there

Check the injectors with a stethoscope or other mentioned if you haven't already. Low level injector firing noise is normal, Since the noise is under load and not at idle it's likely something rotational. Does the ticking sound change with speed? Can you video it and post it here?

Re: D16Y8 Tick
Not sure as far as LMA under load.as I have never encountered an issue with them, I've read about LMA/ticking years ago and why I linked that info. My guess is that LMA ticking noise would be at idle and under load.
