Heating and Idle
Heating and Idle
It may just too cold out. Not too cold to keep the engine from running, but also not hot enough to get hot heat inside. It's warm, but not toasty. I want it toasty. I also have occasional code related to the IACV. I don't remember what code was thrown, but I think it had to do with the coolant not being hot enough. It doesn't matter if I go 5 miles or 30 miles, it continuously runs at 183 degrees. Of course when I stop the heat begins to climb. Then the radiator fan kicks on at 203/204 degrees. I believe the current thermostat is stamped with 180 degrees. What do I need? A hotter thermostat?
Re: Heating and Idle
Those temps sounds normal. What is the outdoor temp? Maybe the HVAC blend door isn't working correctly, or the heater shutoff valve isn't opening fully? It should be able to get uncomfortably warm.
Re: Heating and Idle
The outdoor temps are in the '30s. I haven't yet checked the blend door, but the valve to the heater core is open.
What do you think about the idling? Do you think the IACV should be hotter like in the 190s?

Re: Heating and Idle
If or when the code comes up, I will save it.
According to my Bluetooth reader, the temperature stays at a consistent 183° wherever I go. If I start the car up in the morning and wait a few seconds for it to heat up and go, I almost have to treat the engine like a carbureted engine because it acts like it wants to stall. In another scenario, I would start the car, wait longer than a minute, and it wouldn't have those symptoms. And I can take a guess that it has to do with the coolant in the IACV not being warmed up yet.
