B16A2 Timing Belt

So I'm wanting to add some tension on the timing belt as iit has a bit too much slack for my liking. Turns more then that 90 degree rule. Correct me if I'm wrong but I can adjust the tension with just removing the valve cover and upper timing belt cover correct? Then remove the little cap or plug covering the tensioner bolt, do the whole TDC, loosen bolt, crankshaft counter clockwise 3 teeth, tighten bolt so on and so forth. All the pictures I'm seeing always either has the engine removed or they're replacing the entire belt so they have to remove the lower cover and everything else.

Thanks

Re: B16A2 Timing Belt

If I remember correctly you said your car had 320k on it. Unless it was recently done, I’d replace it.

Re: B16A2 Timing Belt

Good memory. It does have 320km on it and it was recently done but I believe they did not tension the belt properly. Really trying to fix this issue I have right now so just trying to dot all my I's and cross all my T's

Re: B16A2 Timing Belt

Fair enough. When I did the timing belt on my Integra, the tensioning spring fell out when I removed the lower timing belt cover (I hadn't touched the tensioner yet). They're difficult to tension properly so I'm going to assume that the spring is not tensioning properly if it's even in place still.

Re: B16A2 Timing Belt

Ya I'm just hoping I can make the adjustment without having to remove or loosen any other belts or remove the lower timing belt cover

Re: B16A2 Timing Belt

I'm almost certain you will. It's a bit of a chore to even get that centre timing cover off.

Re: B16A2 Timing Belt

Alright so I just finished tightening my timing belt and it is significantly better. No loose spots anymore. I was able to adjust it by just removing the valve cover and upper timing belt cover but it was a pain in the ***. The spring came off and I had to use a coat hanger to get it back on. What a nightmare. I noticed the crankshaft seal is leaking so im going to have to remove everything again anyways and Im going to replace the water pump and belt just so I know exactly when it was done to be safe. Might as well since I'll be in there anyways
