Stalling
Stalling
Thanks for opening this thread and your contribution is appreciated.
Bought new '98 LXSedan. 122K miles.
Driven locally, 20 +/- miles ea./4-5 days/wk by retired parent.
All regularly scheduled maintenance/worn part replacement performed.
RECENT CONCERN:
Engine shut-off and power steering loss during slow down/complete stop (most often after hill descent) at intersection.
RPM drops suddenly below idle.
Sometimes/not always with AC running on low fan speed. Afternoons 80s outside temp.
Intermittently, now - most recent (3) occasions during one 1/2 hour, suburban start/stop travel.
ALWAYS immediately restarts & proceed.
Air filter new. Housing removed and throttle body cleaned & torqued nuts.
VIN# not among ignition module Honda recall.
Key jiggle test did not replicate.
Honda dealership tech claimed 4 test drives around the block - no stalls. No precautions undertaken.
Fuel pump/filter/bad gas issue observed by anyone 1st diagnosis?
Any suggestions to provide my "not-Honda-dealership service" mechanic prior to scheduling appointment?
Cheers,
Jim

Re: Stalling
If its temperature related, then the temperature sensor should be tested. Make sure to use OEM sensors... it's not worth the headache to save $20 trying to use an off brand clone.
If the gauges are dropping before the engine stalls, look at the charging system.

Re: Stalling
ALSO NOTE:
Removed ECT sensor contact and unit threads were blackened with carbon(?) despite fastidious maintenance.
AC button ON & Fan High-speed, and immediately - FRIGID! Haha
