Dies in traffic
Dies in traffic
02 Civic, 210,000 miles. When stuck in rush hour stop and go traffic, it just dies. After it cools off, it'll start up again as if nothing is wrong. It'll run for a little while but do it again. The engine doesn't overheat, it just shuts down once it get hot. When checked, there are no codes to read. (This part I'm told) It ran at idle for the morning and a good portion of the afternoon with nothing happening. Any ideas?

Re: Dies in traffic
In general, could be a very clogged air filter, but less that, it may be a bad ECT (coolant temp) sensor, esp in a 7th-gen that old. If the sensor reads colder than actual, the car can get rich enough to stall and die... esp if the filter is also clogged.
Another possibility is low coolant level, which may also cause overheating but not necessarily register this on the gauge due to its position.
Idling will warm the motor to op temp, but since the engine isn't under any load in the first place, it won't build up as much heat as much as one that's used normally.
