P1164 and P1163 Codes (1998 Honda Civic HX)
P1164 and P1163 Codes (1998 Honda Civic HX)
I got this car from my dad after I wanted to drive a manual transmission (had a CVT sentra previously) and I got it with the CEL on. My dad told me it was the O2 sensors and he would always just clean the connectors out with alcohol and plug them back in and reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 10 min. Which I did but as time passed the CEL would turn on so fast that there was no point of setting the time on my radio every time i cleaned this O2 sensor out. I decided that I was going to change them myself so i bought an upsteam/downstream O2 sensor and found out that the HX models only take the wide 5 pin connector O2 sensors so my dad got me one so I wouldn't have to spend too much. (he bought me the Denso one for cheap like $60-70) So i spent the whole day trying to take this O2 sensor off and finally managed to switch them out. I reset the ECU and CEL was off but came back on soon after. So i decided to install the downstream sensor as well using the sensor i bought on accident (they were 4 pin). So i did and still getting the codes P1164 and now i got P1163. Im assuming P1163 was from installing maybe a wrong part? But i just cant get the P1164 code to go away. I have stock HX wheels, and everything is bone stock. I did run low on oil like a quart low so i just filled it up and cleans connectors and the engine was running pretty well and i thought it was the oil giving the CEL but it came back on. Ive been at this for since summer started and I want to fix this before i go back to school. Please help:,(
Re: P1164 and P1163 Codes (1998 Honda Civic HX)
From what I understand, Anything connected to the emission system, sensors especially, should be replaced with Honda OEM parts. Yes they cost more but have better results. Somebody here should be able to tell you what that code is and maybe how to fix it.
Re: P1164 and P1163 Codes (1998 Honda Civic HX)
I replaced with a brand called NTK but as I read other forums, NTK is also an OEM part for honda as well. But the O2 sensor that came off the Civic when I replaced it was Denso. Does that mean I should replace it with Denso and not NTK?
