99 civic ex problems
I bought this car a month ago and it runs and drives great.
Coming home from work a few days ago i noticed smoking coming from inside the air vents ( i dont use my a/c nor do i have a belt for it) so i was about to pull into a gas station when the rpms drop to 0 a few times ( no jerking from it dropping) then it dies. I roll into a spot pop the hood and my battery is smoking. Thought ok its just a battery. Replaced the battery and it wont start. Got it towed home im not getting power to the fuel pump. So i ran some wires and put a swicth on it and i have a fuel pumo again. But still not starting. After further testing i realize i have no spark as well. Went through everything. Ecu, plugs, wires, distributor, main relay. When i bought it it had hood risers on it, if the battery was smoking wpuldnt the smoke escape through the sizable gap in the hood and not the vents?
All thats happening it seems like the battery fried some wires somewhere underneath the dash.

Re: 99 civic ex problems
Gauges dropping to 0 is usually an alternator failing to charge a battery... but in this case it seems like the battery discharged into the system.
-Id check the part numbers on the alternator and battery to make sure they are the right parts to replace OEM, or are OEM.
After that make sure your grounds, relays, fuses are in good shape.
Make sure someone hasn't hard wired the main fuse
Check continuity from battery/charging system to all related parts
Once the battery/charging system is in working order tackle the rest.
