Spoiler repaint - replacement adhesive?

We are considering pulling the trunk spoiler off from our 05 Civic LX SE. The paint is bubbling very badly, exposing over half of the spoiler surface. We have a friend that is willing to prep, paint, and seal it at a good price with a properly matched paint.

The question bugging me is about the adhesive present between the spoiler and the trunk lid. This provides a good seal to prevent leaks into the trunk, right? Anticipate the removal and painting processes will ruin the current adhesive. What do people use as replacement adhesive when reinstalling the spoiler? Silicone would make a mess and not likely last. Where can one get adhesive comparable to the OEM stuff?

I know on my 2000 there was no sealant, just a foam gasket.

That would be a positive thing, provided the foam is still in good condition and would continue sealing it up well.
