Best primer for quarter panels?
Re: Best primer for quarter panels?
I did some pretty extensive rust repair on a car I had last year. I used rust converter before applying fiberglass (this is a critical step), then sanded it smooth before applying self-etching primer, paint, then clear coat.
Re: Best primer for quarter panels?
I did the same. Cut out the rust, applied POR15, fibreglass filler. Now just wondering what primer to use. High build is good for filling scratches, right?
Epoxy is supposed to be waterproof and allows for some flexing, right? Or is high build good enough?

Re: Best primer for quarter panels?
I am using a glazing putty which will fill most pinholes/scratches. Then the high build x 2 coats. high build can shrink so IDK if 3 is better. More is apparently not better.
Re: Best primer for quarter panels?
How long after priming with 1K high build should I sand & add the base coat? 24 hours? 72 hrs?
The primer is likely to shrink a little, no idea tho what is optimum.

One more question: Can I sand/polish the clear coat anytime or does it have to be done within a set time frame?
What if I didn't sand the clear coat? Would that affect the car in any way?

Re: Best primer for quarter panels?
I never used a clay bar. I used buffing compound to help blend the colour difference (there inevitably will be) and then polishing compound to make it shine.
