cleaning climate control buttons

My son said his girlfriend spilled her coffee on the dash. All the radio/climate
control buttons are stiff now. Any idea on how to try and free them up? Don't think
I should spray any liquid cleaner into the buttons? Any ideas?
thanks

Re: cleaning climate control buttons

Use an electronic component cleaner spray such as Deoxit. Lay down towels to avoid the spray getting on interior surfaces. Some sprays are both a cleaner and lubricator.

Re: cleaning climate control buttons

I'd say remove the AC controls completely from the vehicle and go to town with some paper towels, q-tips, and some 90% isopropyl alcohol

Re: cleaning climate control buttons

Hot soapy water cleans syrup and sugary drink residue the best IMHO, but if any of the electronics come in contact with water your cleaning project may become expensive

You would have to strip the unit apart far enough to remove all electric and electronic parts of it, leaving only the plastic parts that need cleaned.
