2009FA5 is an unknown quantity at this point
2009 FA5 Radio changes by itself.

The mode(Fm/AM/iPod) and station(on the radio) or track (on my phone) changes by itself fairly constantly. I notice it happening most of the time when I shift but it also sometimes happens seemingly randomly. The radio doesn't change volume by itself or turn on or off by itself or anything else, just the mode and track functions. Is this something I should let a dealership do? Or a third party shop or should I be able to fix it myself? I just bought this car recently so any resources or advice on how to troubleshoot or get it fixed is appreciated, Thanks!

Sounds like it could be an issue with either the head unit or the steering wheel switches. I'm not 100% familiar with what functions are available on the steering wheel controls on a 2009, but I know my 2018 has track skip/station change functions from the wheel. The track skip function on mine works on media playing from an iPod, phone (direct connect and bluetooth), etc.

It does have the steering wheel buttons, is there a way to disconnect these somehow to see if that solves the problem?

Re: 2009 FA5 Radio changes by itself.

There's likely a way to disconnect it from the head unit, but if you wanted to disconnect the connector at the switch itself, you'd have to take off the steering wheel. Not to mention, you'd be disconnecting the airbag, too, since it's all in one common harness.
Here's a video showing you how to swap the switches (which, by default, shows you how to disconnect the switches on the wheel):

I'd have to see a wiring diagram for the head unit to be able to see what connector or wires you'd have to disconnect.

here's a video about adding steering wheel controls to an 8thgen LX. He tells you what wires he had to add (you would need to depin and tape off) for steering wheel controls
