I recently installed some TYC projectors on my car. Install went very well except for the last part. Underneath the car there is about 3 or 4 clips that clamp onto the subframe. Well for what ever reason (not being responsible) i lost 1 clip and could not get the other 2 or 3 to line up correctly
(
). Soooo i just firgured......WTH, screw it, it seemed to be on fairly decent, i thought that i would make it to my local auto parts store to get some zip ties to sucure it more.
So i hop on the freeway doing 90 as always
. All of a sudden i hear something dragging under my car, i figured maybe i had a flat or ran over something. So i waited until the next stop to get off the freeway, it happened to be a Golf Course of all places. So i go to the parking lots get out of my car, look under the front, and DAM under body **** was
1. melted
2. smelled like burned plastic.
3. about 30% of the plastic melted away.
By this time im 10 minutes late for work.
So my only option was to completly rip it off of the car, and i did. You should have seen the old foggies with their putter lookin at me like i was crazy (highlight of the day)
Once i began ripping the **** off the car. I noticed that right on the drivers side my the wheel, i guess the alternater belt is right there, i figured that this needed to be covered imediately. When i got home i got creative and covered the belts with the remaining plastic that i had.
I dont car about not having all that plastic under there, is there anything else that i should be protecting?????

I have removed mine as well.
It is a gaurd for small rocks, and the event you run over a bumper or something with lots of angles, it is to protect. I dont have any of it.. the only thing still left is the inside in the wheel wells, and that is about half way up becuase it has come loose over time.
It is not 'really' necessary.. It's one of those things like a bypass valve that are a nice idea, but are not truely necessary. My bypass broke too, I got tape, it isn't rain session...
I called Honda about it, it is too much money to replace such a thing, so I wont. I have ur pulleys, and I'm still not concrened about a rock or even a shoe (many, many times in htown.. lol). It's one of those things that are nice stock, but are not necessary enough to be concrened about, and with maintenence and oil changes Honda (2 or 3 diff ones) have never mentioned it, or asked if i'd like to replace it.. that tells me something..

Mine was draging too.. same thing hapened... I just cut away as it all falls apart.. I'm ok now, but for a few months driving in but-f*-no where on farm/market roads it came loose, and racing, racing was hard on it sometimes with the bumps. All is ok, no need to worry.
I did the same exact thing that you did. My sister was in a hurry to get food and I wasnt done with the bumper so I just popped it back on cuz I figured it was on pretty secure already. I proceeded to go 80 on the freeway and the underbody started scraping. Number one, use all of the plastic that you have left and zip tie it up (drill a few holes to get the ties through both sides) I have had it that way since feb. and it hasnt come off since although I think that the engine bay might have gotten a bit more dirty than it would have. When I went to the dealership to get it fixed they quoted me $100 for parts and labor but they said that my ghetto fix should work for a while because it covers all the vital parts.
I must say that 90 was a bit much when you know you havent put everything back on (although I did go 80
).
Good luck with the fix.

i also removed my plastic covering the bottom but i learned my lesson
well sorta i had a aem cai and when it rains water splashes up onto the filter and it gets soaked and some time my car bogs out . this would not have happened if i had left the plstic on the bottom . now this does not matter because i got a k&n fipk2 so i dont have to worry about water but just a heads up for all those who have removed plastic and have cai's
