cabin air filter ??????

I have a 2001 dx coupe, problem is that i get a lot of dust in the cabin.

so I took the filterbox cover off , behind the console and there was NO filter in there!!!

Is this normal, shouldn't all civics have them?

what do you guys think?

Damn. Kinda weird I guess. Pick up a pair on H and A for 22.50 plus shipping. That is the cheapest I have seen anywhere.

I recently got a pair from HandA. They are OEM equipment but ......... they only give you the paper filter inserts. You need to keep your old plastic frames! This is the reason why HandA priced them so low. They don't really make that clear on their site. But, as I said, the filter material is the same as OEM.

So if you have a DX, do NOT order from HandA !! Cuz you will still need to buy the plastic frame filter holder. Better off buying the whole thing from a Honda dealer.

If you have an LX or EX, why not just get it from HandA? It's cheaper than $12 apiece.

Ya, the 2nd one was the one I got. The first one is the engine air filter, I believe.

For 22.50 (+ a bit for shipping), they'll send you 2 OEM filter inserts. So just take out the old inserts, keep the plastic frame, and plop in the new ones... and you'll save over $30 compared to what dealers charge.

I changed my old ones at 30k miles as per the manual ... they were a bit dirty, but not black like some people said above. Thought I would notice a difference in cabin airflow, but there was no diff.

The only thing clogged cabin filters do is maybe lower the airflow. I don't think they would cause your car to stink up. But give it a shot and get them changed.

What you are smelling is not from the air cleaner. The smell is actually coming from condensation from the AC. It is normal. All cars have this BTW. Open your windows and run the AC for a minute and you'll be fine. The smell will eventfully disappear. That's why it is recommended to turn on your AC every once in a while to prevent clog. Read the manual for more details.

I think these micron A/C cabin filters only started with the 7th gen models.

I'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but I find the air coming into my car to be very clean when I have the AC or heat on, with all windows closed. And when I tapped out my old filter, there was quite a bit of dust and dirt, and even small leaves coming loose. Maybe that micron filtration does do something.

7th gen may have it's other problems, but I find the HVAC system on these cars to be of excellent quality for a car in this price range ... very clean and quiet.

ahh. thank you.

AC isn't so bad, but compared to other cars it takes foreverrrr to reach "cold cold" temperatures.
