I get even WORSE gas milage
I seriously think theres something wrong w/ my car, but id ont feel like taking it to the dealership. 02 EX auto coupe, I get (IF IM LUCKY -- driving like a grandma in the city) around 220-240 miles per tank. That is HORRIBLE. When i drive aggresively, around 200 per tank. And I did the whole gas milage calculation thing on a trip to san diego (all highway @75 mph) and got 32.5 mpg. And thats with Iridiums... what gives?

360 miles...02 LX auto and that's with AC on.
Anyway, maybe the car wasn't broken in properly.
Tough question...too many things could cause it. Have your dealership look at it...

Whoa that's unusual, I get 400 (min) to 430 (max) during winter months and 380 (min) to 400 (max) during summer months. I drive moderately hard at times and I do engine brake a lot, but still get good gas mileage with at least half a gallon to 1 left. What performance mods to do you have besides the iridiums? I only have intake (K&N FIPK), but since I got the intake actually get 10-20 more total miles than what I listed above. Sounds like you might have an issue, how hard are you driving it and do live in high heat and high altitude? You mpg from your SD trip sounds Ok, but your total miles don't sound right, so maybe your gas needle is just off. Are you really getting those miles from filling your tank up with 12-13 gallons or do you fill up less when the empty light comes on? Also, note sometimes the empty light comes on early then goes out after 30 or miles then comes back on another 20 or so miles.
When you guys calculate MPG do you use US Gallons or Imperial Gallons?
I've been getting around 34-37 MPG..mostly freeway in my '02 EX 5-speed, if going by Imperial gallons.. I probably take it to 5500 rpm 2-3 times a day when merging, which I don't think is excessive.. or "driving hard"

Did you top off the tank as closely the same as possible when you calculated your mileage? Probably wouldnt make much difference.. but who knows. Fuel economy can be affected by alot of things. Tire pressure, clogged ait filter, mechanical drag, weight, power loss such as torque converter slippage, suspension alignement, etc. If all of those seem fine and your engine it in tip top running condition then I would perhaps seek out a dealer/professional opinion. I know this doesnt help much but wtf.

well, my car only has 9000 miles onit and i reset the trip odometer everytime i fill up, i take that number and divide it by the number of gallons it take to fill it up. about 22 MPG

When i do the 32.5 mpg calculation, yes im using the dividing method... but when i tell you my total milage per tank.. i just reset the trip meter when i fill up. And guess what? I did that last time i filled up, and now the needle is EXACTLY half way down.. so its half a tank, and i have EXACTLY on the dot 100.0 miles. So I figure 100.0 miles per half a tank. I get the same numbers every time i fill up. around 100.0 miles per HALF tank = 200 miles per tank. AK, when you say engine broken in properly do you mean driven hard or driven grandmaly? I started to redline at 350 miles....

This is the first time I have ever psted anything. But i think you have a seriouse prob and should just spend the dough and get it checked out. In my 2002 civic ex i the best i got was 36mpg with a whole gallon left in the tank at a fill up.. on a regular bassis i get from 32-38mpg. and that is all highway and hard driveing. I rolled my honda off the lot with 100 miles on it in Feburary and am turnig 7500. I go through 2 gallons of gas a day. And well i have never heard of a honda getting that bad of MPG. and i mean i red line at least 5-6 times a day and run my car at about 70mph going both to and from work. and have never had a mpg under 32. SO GO GET SOME HELP!! just my opion.

My car is stock (enginewise) except for a K&N drop in filter. I average about 32MPG. Sometimes it'll be funky and my light will go on at 27, but thats about 1/10 times. I drive pretty grannyish, except maybe one high rev per tank. Yeah, I'm one of those guys that constantly look at my gas gauge. I just wonder how people like NorinnRadd get friggin 400mpg. I'm in a 4dr 5spd EX with 17s, but I should be happy for my 32mpg I guess..

MangoEX, like I said before along with some others it could very well be that your gas needly is just off. Honda shipped most of our cars such that the gas needle shows less than what you actually have to ensure people fill up before they run out of gas. When I did the Blue light gauges DIY I fixed the needle so it is more accurate to what gas is really left, since mine was doing the same as yours. When you fill up your tank after the empty light comes on how many gallons fill up? If it's less than 10 or 11 gallons then the issue is moot and you just have a screwy gas needle. But if it is more than 11 gallons then you definitely need to take your car into the dealership. Hope this helps...
I believe the reason why I average anywhere from 34 to 37mpg is the following...
1) I use synthetic motor oil
2) Get oil change every 3000-5000 miles
3) Get my fuel injectors cleaned every 15,000 miles
4) I have a FIPK II (this increased my mpg by about 1-1.5mpg)
Other than that I don't know why else (maybe just lucky), since I do drive rather hard (lots of rev's when passing, merging, etc.).

Well, I must say that I am one of the lucky ones. I have an 03 LX 5 spd and I get at least 36mpg. I only have 1800 miles on the car but I have only filled it up 4 times (I think). I always get over 400 miles per tank and it also has some gas left in it. I drive 75% freeway with the cruise set at 70. The rest is stop and go traffic. Good luck finding the problem.

btw, I was talking about the "break-in" period.
I drive 150 miles a day to work and back...mostly freeway 70-80mph....I get anywhere from 36-39mpg in my '01 EX Coupe with 60,000 miles....anything below 30 is seriously wrong.... i've never gotten below 32
That is crazy. I get about 250 too.that is BS. well its probably because i have an intake and exhaust. does intake and exhaust mess with milage. I have 15k miles already.Maybe I should go get a tune up.
