ANYONE WITH A 2002 CIVIC READ. IMPORTANT!
ok well my aunt took her car to a shop to have a creaking and poping noise from her strut checked out. i have one as well but i thought it was only because i lowered it. the guy tells her somehtig is wrong and she shouldnt take long road trips until it is fixed. he told her to call her dealer and ask if there was anything on a bulletin from honda about 2002 civics having problems with the struts. she did and sure enough, there is a bulletin on it, nothing offical yet, but if you call the dealer they will try to beat around the bush because nothing is out yet, but be persistant. my dad call our dealer at home and got some straight answers. i couldnt get jack from the guys here at school. anyway, they will fix my aunt's civic and my dad's civic, but not mine because it is lowered. i was planning on getting koni's this summer anyway. my dad has not heard any noises yet but has heard them on my car when i turn at slows speeds.
so anyway, sorry it is so long, but check it out. if you are not yet lowered, they should replace it for free.

When Honda proves struts were defective because of an intake, the world will end.
Federal Law states that you cannot be denied warranty work unless an aftermarket part causes the problem.

no way in hell honda can say they wont fix your struts because of your intake. now if there was a recall on the throttle body, that may be a different story, but the intake has nothign to do with your struts.
boilermaker is right, i believe it is called the magnasson moss act or something like that.
kenshin-i was kinda pissed too because now i have to spend the cash and get the konis alittle earlier than expected. i havent worked since july too because of college and was going to use some of june to save up. guess not now, gunna have to tap into the mom and pops hand out fund. haha.

If they recall struts and your lowered, just throw the stock springs back on, i ean a few hours of work to switch the springs is well worth it, b/c if youbuy the strus from honda theywill charge you a rediculous price for them. Like 4bangin was talking about the intake, if they recall throttle body throw the stock intake back on.

Must be nice to be able to hit your parents up for money for non-necessary stuff. I loan my mom money half the time, and I get guilt a guilt filled $50 from my dad every once in a while. They don't pay a dime for my college, and I don't get jack. Hell I didn't even go home for xmas last year because I was with my fiance and they didn't even send me anything. I'm never going to put my kids in a position like that.

you cant just throw your stock springs back on, i think these bolts are apintes so they can tell if they have been taken off and they are gonna ask you why, and if you have asholes for dealrs like they are around here, they prove it was lowered.
i got that same problem!! not sure if its the struts though...lowered with neuspeed, and i have that creaking/popping noise too everytime i turn at slow speeds, its really annoying

not really sure about the 2001 or the 03. all i can say is call the dealer and ask. i know the creaking u are hearing, if it is an 02, very well may be your strut not just the dead coils. call and get it checked out. i travel long distants alot and they recommend not doing so until it is fixed. so i would get it checked to be on the safe side.
I knew something was up with my front end! I notice it at the end of the day, when I pull out of the parking lot and I am slowing almost to a stop I hear "POP" --"CLANK" or something. Hmmm bad strut eh? So, if I take to dealer to get fixed and they see my cam gear, intake, headers, exhaust, even though its not related, will they take notes and put me in the database, under my VIN# for future info. What do ya think?

you know, I think that popping noise is because the strut has a bad bearing ring... if you have aftermarket springs or whatever, check the bearing ring! It might even be missing.. that would certainly make it defective.

The bearing is part #9

The bearing is part #9
I too have a 2k2 Civic.
And I have noticed a 'clanking' sound whenever I'm slowly pulling out of my parking space in the morning(steering wheel pulled all the way). Though I haven't heard that 'popping' sound that many in this board talk about(maybe because I have the damn radio cranked up!) .
Unless it is a serious defect( i.e. involvong safety), i'll tolerate it for a while. It is a bitch taking the car to the damn dealership(i'm sure that we are all busy people).
p.s. I too have had that starting problem that some in this board talk about(though it is a VERY RARE occurence).
What gives? I thought that Honda's were supposed to be quality cars? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my civic. But all of this **** does eventually get annoying.

take it in, I had the same thing and I have an intake. It is a known problem for 2002's, and my dealer knew that so your should also. They will replace it for free and your warrenty shouldn't matter, just bitch a little
k, hear me out guys, what about crack and pop when turning the wheel with turn signal on? when I make slow turns, with turn signal on (left or right), I heard creaking and popping sound when the steering wheel winds and unwinds.... yah think it's worth checking out for the possible 'strut' issue?

Those of you who have already taken your car to the dealership to get it fixed, how long did it take? I need to see when I can do this. I will call the dealership but I want some kind of reference to other people. Thanks.
I heard a "popping" sound when making left or right hand turns, also when I was going over bumps or dips....so make what you will out of that. It took them about 3 days to order the part in, and then about 2 hours to replace...I think it really depends on how busy your dealer is.
I also had issues with the alignment after they did this...so make sure they check that after they replace the struts.

wait wait wait......b4 you go and worry bout a recall....i have somehting u might liek to know....when u lowered ur car....and than u heard a knocking noise...is it whenever u turn your wheel...if it is..its not the struts...you have a rubber shock absorber that sits on top of the lowering spring...u hafta re-adjsut that to get rid of that knocking noise...it happend to me...and i had to take out my springs 3x to fix...beleive me..no one should go thru that pain of jacking and un-bolting ..and lfiting for a simple problem liek that..try it...im prtty sure thats what is...-=)
So BASICALLY, it's like this: It may be the struts which should probably be replaced anyway if your car is lowered. OR, it might just be the springs if you have Neuspeeds, which I do. So what's the solution there. Live with it?? It's a pretty annoying noise, and it definitely sounds like we're all having the same problem. GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE. I do, however, think it's a coincidence that people with Neuspeeds are having this problem, but we may not be the only ones. So I guess I wanna know...IS THIS GONNA BE PERMANENT? AND WILL THIS CAUSE LONG TERM DAMAGE TO MY SUSPENSION OR STEERING COLUMN? thanks!

All I want to know is what the problem is. There is nothing I hate more than getting the run around from people who THINK they know everything and then I get a completely different story from the next guy. I really want to avoid all that, so that's why I am desperately posting to find out. Who do I take it to if Honda won't touch it? And then, who would even dare to fix it?
