Anyone have their fuel sending unit replace yet?
Here's the story... my 02 coupe has less then 6000 miles on it and is stock except for my drop. Bought it new last October.
On my last fill up, it took 11.2 gallons for 304 miles of driving. My fooking jaw dropped when I saw this, since it was the first time ever that it took this amount for this short of distance. I say short since I'm use to having it take only 8.5 to 9 gallons for ~320 miles. Anyway, after 4 days of driving it was reading FULL on my gauge until today. Now its reading about 3/4 full for ~240 miles. Waay off. So I called my dealer, spoke to a tech advisor and he mentioned that its most likely the fuel sending unit inside the tank thats defective. The fuel sending unit is basically the float mechanism and sensor that tells the fuel gauge what to read.
So my question is has anyone had theirs replaced yet and did it fix the problem?
BTW, you can tell if your gauge is bad it if never drops to empty when the ignition key is turned off.

I had mine replaced a couple months after i got my car. My problems were innaccurate readings and also starting issues. Also, my guage always dropped to empty when shut off and it was still deemed bad. For the most part the guage is working now (i get the low fuel light when there is up to 4.5 gallons of gas in the tank or sometimes as low as 1.5 gallons in the tank, its not consistent and this is on level surfaces), but i still have occassional starting issues.

Ahh good to know that its somewhat fixed. I think that gauge cluster was being replaced by Honda at first, then they later realized that it wasnt the real problem but the fuel sending unit instead.
I'm not sure now if I really have a problem with my guage or if its something else. Its really strange now. It finally dropped down to just a couple of lines above the 1/2 tank mark. When I went fill up it only took 5.6 gallons after topping it off and I drove 296 miles. That equates to ~53mpg which I know cant be right. So I dont know.. I think I'm just gonna watch it for a couple of more weeks and see what happens. Thanks for the reply.

i had a similar problem when i put in my indiglow gauges. i took off the needles cus i thought i had to. so wne i put it back the gas light turned on when i was at half tank. i took it back to honda and they put in an all new gauge cluster. odometer resetted back to 0. but they put a sticker in my door jamb stating the problem and the actuall miulage on the car which was 5709 at the time and 8706 on the new odometer now.

Ahh yeah.. sounds like you messed up your gauge back then. I didnt install any indigo's or mess with my guage cluster. Its all stock except for my drop and wheels.
I had to have mine replaced too. When I would fill it up at the pump it would take several miles (like 30) before it would read correctly and show like it should. I've since had it do that one other time and it happened when I left the ignintion in the on position and filled it up. When I started it, it didn't register right but it went up pretty quick, like about 5 minutes later. I guess it's fixed for the most part but still may get them to look at it one more time. Kinda agrevtating. Anyway, you're not the only one it looks like. I'd definately get it replaced....it's free
