Remember to break it in properly... easy for the first 1000 miles.
And flush your tranny fluid every 15,000 miles to be safe. A tranny cooler wouldn't hurt at all either! $80 can save me $1700....
Sounds like a GOOD investment no??

If I remember correctly, he was out of warranty for a couple thousand miles.

My Honda civic is currently under the extended service agreement (big mistake money down the dumps) and I am currently having problems with my civics tranny/gear shifter. I don';t know whats the problem but I was told that I had to pay a deductible if the warranty covers my particular problem was wondering if anyone out there could let me know if the tranny is covered under extended warranty. Here's the problem. when I throw it into 2nd gear it pops itself out and sometimes it will grind in second gear like if I didn't put the egar in all the way. Today for instance it wouldn't go into 1st gear at all. whats my problem is it user abuse or what. I mean I don't dawg my car or nothing? Someone let me know.
Duece,
Rick

That's right. I forgot about that. I think it was 4,000 miles over because his trans went out at 40,000.

So is this guy's mileage at 40,000 or 64,000 miles ??
If he's at 40,000, then he seriously got ripped and misinformed by the dealer.

I just checked my warranty booklet, and correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the transmission covered for 5 years/60,0000 miles? It's listed on the Powertrain Component List page ... "Transmission and differential housing and all internal parts - 5 years/60,000 miles" ......

Did you buy an extended service agreement Ronin? I'm gonna go check my (standard) warranty now.

Like I said, it's in our warranty booklet (the thin booklet, not our user manual) ... or at least, it says so in mine.
Man, I just hope mine doesn't go out since I have an automatic. Do you guys think it'd be best to just trade in the car if it happens (like a manual Civic)? I know they'd replace it for free (given that it's under warranty), but I don't want to keep going back every 40,000 miles to get it replaced. I've heard a lot of people complain about their automatic trans.
Honda's bumper to bumper and powertrain are both 3/36...
I chose the extended warranty based on the short length of the powertrain warranty. I mean if my power windows or radio fail, no biggie... but if something in the driveline fails...
I got the HondaCare 7/100 for 850 online... it has a 50 dollar deductible. And you can get HondaCare if the car has less than 42k on it (or is less than 42 months old).
I figure the first time something major fails after the warranty is up, it will start paying off. Also, you get towing/roadside (something else Honda fails to offer).
Its kind of sad, but for such a "reliable" car company, Honda really doesn't offer any perks... I mean I guess they figure they don't need to. A Hyundai might have a 10yr warranty, but at some point you hate to be at a dealer quite a bit (I have an acquaintance with a 2yr old Hyundai that has been in the shop a LOT! -- but its not costing her anything besides her time).
