Rep Power: 0 warming up your car....
how long do you guys let your car warm up before driving?
do you let the rpm fall to a certain point before going?
i hate the sound of my 2003 when i start it.
sometimes (very rare) my car struggles for like 2 seconds before it starts... does anybody else experience the same thing?

Rep Power: 0 Man, I thought my car was bad. At start up, the needle shoots up to two lines right above 1k. I let it run for about 3 minutes so it drops down to the line right under the 1k. Once I see the needle start moving for the temp, I just go. Yeah, I live in Hawai.... waaaarm!

Rep Power: 0 The manual says that you don't have to let the car warm up for any longer than a minute, even in the coldest weather. After that, I guess you are just wasting gas.

Rep Power: 0 during thw winter when the temp was like 40degrees F, the rpm would should to about 1500 at start up. i let the car idle for 30 secs so i can get the oil going thru the system, then i drive off making sure i dont go over 3000rpm, i dont care if im goin to slow in front of a guy. they can wait till my car is at about normal running temp.

Rep Power: 0 Haha, I used to drive slow in front of people when I had my 88 300ZX. If I wanted to warm it up, I'd have to wait 10 MINUTES!!! But, of course, there were days that I couldn't wait for the car to warm up or else I'd be late for work. Anyway, because the car didn't warm up, it couldn't go past 2nd gear (it was an automatic). I had to stay under 35 mph (it was hard to go past 35 mph... or else my RPMs would be friggin high.) for about a good 5-7 minutes till it finally went to 3rd, 4th and so on. Haha, I miss the 300ZX days.

Rep Power: 0 I also give it a minute to let the oil circulate.
Starts at 1400rpm and drops down to 750rpm (when fully warmed....which is in 5-6 minutes)
If you decide not to warm up your car, do not drive past 3000rpm until the car reaches normal operational temperature.

Rep Power: 0 thanks everybody for the help.
my plan will be to let my car warm up for at least a minute before driving.
and i will definitely stay at low rpm (3000 or below) before driving a little harder.
will definitely read what the manual too.

Rep Power: 0 I never let the car idle to warm up unless it is to heat the car.
The object is to get the engine up to temperture as quickly as possible. Driving very moderately until the temp gets to normal is the best way to do this, imo.
I feel a minute or two of letting the car warm up is overkill. We drive civics, not $70k sports cars.

Rep Power: 0 i am also a firm believer in allowing the oil to circulate before liftoff. i will usually wait about half a minute or so. longer if its really cold outside.

Rep Power: 0 By the way, i read somewhere longggggg time ago and gas consumption is 30-40% effective when the car is not "fully" warmed up.
I guess that means we'll be getting like 15-20mpg if we just "take off" and not warm it up. Who knows......

Rep Power: 0 When I am going to leave the house or the restraunt or whereever I just remote start the car and let it sit. It usually runs for about 5-6 min before I get in and drive. When it is really cold otside I let it run for about 10 min before I get in so that the heater can get my car nice and toasty when I get in.

Rep Power: 0 you dont have to warm up the car, just dont go over 3k rpm until the engine is at operating temperature. then again i have almost 40k miles and the other day i started the car, and took off going at about 2k rpms and the engine was knockin and pingin. i wait at least 10 seconds now.
