Clutch problems

Ok, it is winter and I know cars act differently, but one day it got warmer and my clutch began to release or grip at a much higher point! It now seems that I have about 1/4 or less of the clutch length to actaully work with. Not only that, but it creaks too! Does anyone know what to do or what actions to take? Can you adjust the clutch at all to make it better? Is it a defect and at 12,000 current miles I need a new clutch? Finally, if this happened to you, how many miles you think I can drive on it?

Thanks a lot guys,

Eddie
