!F*ck honda Customer Service! if you own a civic, please read!!1

So what do you do when your gas light comes on? You put gas, but on friday when mine came on i put gas and it filled it to past full, then about 20 miles later i was at half, so i did'nt think anything of it until that night 10 miles later my light came on, So then i thought ok i know i just did'nt go through a tank of gas in 30 miles!!!!!This problem continued through this weekend, so this morning at 8 am i drove to honda and they basicly told me "i don't know"---and oh this is normal, it's a condition which occurs in 01-02 civics, then he showed me a sevice bulletin saying something about an erratic gas gauge, they told me it was nothing to worry about. So i said very well , and drove home but then i saw that my light was still on, so i put gas and the tank only accepted 1.1gallons, then I asked myself so i have a 1.5 gallon tank, no this is bullshit.
Went back to honda and colorfully explained what had just happened. So then they told me well we will record how many miles are on your car and the next time your light comes on, comeback and we'll go from there......I spoke to my dad about this and he said well the problem you are describing sounds like the float in your gas tank may be bad---and therefore it's under warranty and honda does'nt wanna lose money by paying for it-----so then i conclude this thread with F*ck honda customer service and the slimy bastards of Community Honda of Whittier,Ca

also please don't let honda d**k you around, know your warranty and what's covered by it!!!!

RELAX! The dealer is just confused because many people complain about the gas guage and honda has taken it up the butt over this issue (my '01 got declaired a lemon over this and more).

It sounds like you have a legitimate complaint, tell them you are aware that some guage fluctuation is normal but explain the 1.1 gallon thing to them and they will get to it...

Ive had similar problems on my civic but not as extensive as the one you are having. Once my gas light was on and I filled up my gas tank with gas, but when I turned on my car the gas light was still on. I just ignored it and about 5 miles later it slowly showed how much gas I put in it. Wierd isnt it

Yea that happens to me sometimes, the needle takes forever to go up. I just drive fast & stop hard & turn back & forth, it goes faster.

I have weird gas tank issues too. Sometimes it says half full, then when I turn it off and come back later, it'll be 1/4 tank? How does my car burn gas when it isn't even running?

I think your Civic may be one of those recovering "gas-a-holics". It was a SUV in a previous incarnation, and it needs a fix of the glug-glug when no-one's looking to satisfy the urge that it had as a Suburban, Expedition or a Sentra SE-R.

Don't worry - it's a 12-tank program. It'll all be over soon. 42mpg, here you come!

Ok the reason for the gas gauge going up sooo slow could be you didn't shut off your car entirely. That once happened to me and the next time i shut off the car before i filled up and it has yet to happen again. Also for the tiny gas tank situation when your gas light comes on really quick after a fill up go and push your car to the limit and see if you run out of gas if so then your Car is messed up. I think your gauges might be off a tiny bit but your still might have a full tank.. i could be wrong.

I agree with the Honda Factory Waranty Service at the dealers. I have the extended 100,000 mile warenty because I'm I guess over protective and wanted the extra security feeling that if something goes wrong they'll fix it.

Everyone knows, or has heard at least that Automatic Honda Transmisions aren't the best...aka they break all the time and could be at any miles. So I've recently started noticing my trans slip when at a stop and push on the gas. I gave it a wee and took it in. They did their blah blah inspection and concluded it was fine, nothing was slipping, they told me it was just cold out. Fine...okay.

Well in Chicago we had a week of average 60 degre temps. and sunny, not cold, it was still doing it. I was like alright what's up. I take it back they test all the shif points and gears and tell me once again it's fine. Now I know when I bought this car last year it wasn't doing this...somethings up. They told me if it becomes worse to give them a call.

Do I have to have my transmision be completly usless in order for them to believe that somethings wrong with it? I mean really, you pay for a warenty and you being the primary driver every day know how your car normally runs, not them. So I'm not sure what to do, but I'm not happy with thier "Customer Warenty Care" that they promise you.

I saw the same problem as jiggerachi and renegade civic yesterday. I pulled in for a fillup, and left my electrical system on so my gf could listen to the radio. I didn't turn the car off, completely, just the engine.

Put 9 gallons in, but the gague stayed at 1/4. Had the car over a year and never saw that before, so I thought maybe it was a shitty pump at the gas station. Went down a block to another station and it would only let me put in .37 cents. So the tank was full.

After driving 10 miles, the gague gradually read full. I turned my car on the next morning and everything is back to normal. Strange.

BTW, www.alldata.com has technical service bulletins online, but I can't find one regarding the gas gauge for a 2002 civic EX coupe (what I have)

i've noticed that too. the gas gauge is all F*cked. when it's about half a tank it really means i have a quarter of a tank. cause from a half tank to almost empty that changes in a VERY short period of time.

Yes, I experienced this too.

The gas gauge seems to go up and down..

For me.. takes a long time to get from full to 3/4.. but from there, it goes down QUICK.

you gas guages are fine for the most part. If you don't shut down thne it doesn't reset so it gradually corrects itself. Gas taking a long time to get to half or 3/4 is not uncommon in any car. hell my old jeep would fluctuate if i took a turn fast. it depends on the floater and where it is in the tank. It also calculates speed. if you drive alot of highway and traffic you will notice you guage going up and down depending on what you are doing at the time.

Simple solution. Are cars get about 33o mi/gal so like me fill up every 290-300 miles.

see problem solved.

Here's what I found out after speaking to a tech advisor. If your fuel gauge needle drops down to Empty when you turn you ignition off, then your gauge is fine and its most likely your fuel sending unit. Mine started acting up this week. It reads 3/4 Full but Ive driven over 270 miles. My dealer says they'll fix it if I schedule an appointment. If I was to repair it myself I would need a special Honda tool to remove the sending unit and the replace it with a new that costs $78 dollars. That part can be found cheaper online btw.

My Honda civic is currently under the extended service agreement (big mistake money down the dumps) and I am currently having problems with my civics tranny/gear shifter. I don';t know whats the problem but I was told that I had to pay a deductible if the warranty covers my particular problem was wondering if anyone out there could let me know if the tranny is covered under extended warranty. Here's the problem. when I throw it into 2nd gear it pops itself out and sometimes it will grind in second gear like if I didn't put the egar in all the way. Today for instance it wouldn't go into 1st gear at all. whats my problem is it user abuse or what. I mean I don't dawg my car or nothing? Someone let me know.
Duece,
Rick

Honda hasn't fixed a single problem that has come up on my car, they give me some bullshit reason, tell me it's fine. I've gone in knowing 100% what was wrong, all they needed to do was fix it. They wouldn't do it. They blamed it on what I've done to my car even though the problem had nothing to do with what I've done to the car. I argued and they just told me they wouldn't fix it, so I had to.

I wouldn't buy another honda again, their quality and service has gone down hill the past few years and is only getting worse. I would get a nissan next time.

dude complete dumbasses, sometimes people are, if you are careless enough to not tighten your gas lid as to the directions it says on the gas lid, then it is even written on the lid that if not tighten with three clicks past its fully tightened point, the gas light could come on, so next time be aware if that problem happens again, that it could just be your gas lid not tightened.

Mine did the same thing and I did notice it only happened when I didn't turn the ignition to the off position. If you leave it where u can listen to the radio while refueling, it seems to screw it up. I took it to the Honda place here and they replaced it anyway no questions asked really. It's under warranty, take it back and make 'em replace it but before you do, try turning the switch all the way off before you fill up.

peace

I guess you haven't read your manual at all. Your gas lid has nothing to do with the gas light being on. If you forget to tighten your gas lid, after several trips, your engine light will go ON. Not your gas light. Please don't confuse gas light being ON with gas lid being loose.

If you have problems with your gas gauge, it is most likely the Gas Gauge software needs to be updated.
