Does my engine sound normal?

I have a 2003 ex coupe w/ mt. When I rev the engine to about 2000rpm it sounds as if I have an aftermarket intake or some other intake/exhaust tuning done to the car. It's kind of hard to describe but the engine sound itself becomes too loud at high rpm to hear this sound anymore. It's not very loud but just enough to notice and sounds as if it is coming from the exhaust or intake system. I have no aftermarket parts (yet). One of the guys at the dealership owns one also and told me his did the same. Is this Normal?

Can you describe the sound more? Does it sound like metallic? Kind of a pinging sound? Let me know what exactly it sounds like, because I have experienced sounds and I too notice it goes away after about 2500-3000RPM.

It's not metallic or pinging. More like when you have a hole in the muffler, except it's coming from the engine and it's not as loud. By the way, I don't have a hole in the muffler just the way it sounds.

Thanks.

I also experience a sound also, doesnt matter what RPM really but as nixage said, as the engine speeds up, the sound is drowned out. It sounds exactly like a semi dirty aftermarket SRI intake. I notice it most when starting at idle and tapping on the gas continuously, about half throttle.

CuRiOuSfIsH, sounds like the same thing. I heard it's normal but wanted to make sure others hear it, too.

I have a sound that started at maybe 21k miles (25k now) and its kinda like something has a reverb to it when I'm at around 3k to 3.5k rpm. It doesn't have as nice a sound when I'm accelerating in that range now. I would guess its probably something ratting. But yes, it does kinda sound like something is up with the intake or exhaust, but I don't think those parts are at fault. It probably just sounds like they are. Unless those are the parts rattling.

okay, i have an 03 ex civic 5 spd and mine does the same thing, the intake is designed in a way in which the airflow is at a certainwave wich creates the sound of an afrtermarket intake... dont believe how good the intake is on the civc ex 03's ? get a friend to rev your engine and put ur hand by the intake inlet, it sucks like a fu&*in vaccum

lol I've been paranoid about "wierd sounds" since I've had the car, but I told myself that I won't both with any of them until that little yellow light that says CHECK ENGINE goes on. hahaha. Warranties are great!

Hey...just a thought. This may not be what you mean but I had a weird noise that seemed to come from my engine bay right as I gave it a little gas...more so when it was cold out. It was almost a burble. Then I noticed that on warm days when I didn't use the heater, the burble wasn't there. I came to the conclusion was that my sound was coolant burbling through the heater core when I turned my heat on and revved a bit. Dunno if this is what yours sounds like, but it doesn't happen on my car when the temp selector is on cool.
