Rattling noise when going through water...
Hey guys,
I am having a really weird problem with my car. It seems as though whenever I go through any significant water (big puddles, watery streets...etc) I hear a rattling noise coming from what seems to be the front right wheel somewhere, or the engine bay. It almost sounds like something is hitting up against the wheel or just flopping around. It will do this for awhile then if I stay clear of water for about 5 minutes it goes away. Maybe coming back about 10 min. later or something like that. I have a AEM cold air intake with bypass valve. However I talked with some of my buddies and they said not to worry as I probably am not taking in water through my intake. I was just worried that the fellas at my performance shop didn't install the bypass valve properly. So what is all your opinions on this?

I have a aftermarket exhaust as well. An Apexi one. It also didn't always do this. I have had the car a little over a year and it started about 2 months ago. Also, had my intake and exhaust for awhile too before that. Although I don't recall going through any major water till abuot then cuz it was so dry. Anyone else know what might be going on?

it's your exhaust piping. Mine does the exact same thing when i go through water. Having looked under my car, the pipe is not touching the body piece but it's pretty close. Once water hits the pipe and it starts going bonkers, it starts rubbing on the car. Try messing with the exhaust pipe and get it further away for the body and/or pad it with something.

yea its the post about the dc tcs, thats me. but if this happens with the oem cat, honda can fix it by puttin clamps in and clamp that sucka tight. but if u have aftermarket ones, u need to take ur car to an exhaust shop, have them clamp the exhaust or something to stop it from banging against the bodyframe, cost $50 for me to do it

Ok, that's all good. Thanks for the info. But eh, I tried to explain this to my performance shop and they said that it does not make any sense to them if it happenes when it's wet and not dry. Anyone have an in depth reason why this would happen? (technicalities?) That would help in explaining what I need for them to do exactly. Of course since they have not done any other car like mine for exhaust yet, they didn't ever hear of this. Thanks again!
when metal is hot and you splash cold water on it what happens? it produces stem and causes a reaction which causes friction and friction causes the hot metal to vibrate! So if its to close to the bottom of the car it will vibrate againist something which produces sound and thats what you are hearing! TECHNICAL ENOUGH? every car has this issue but the exhaust is not close enough to the body to hear it!
