My '02 EX, again, failed to start.

What the hell is Honda's problem? I think theres a recall coming or something. It happens when I need a car the most, i.e. going to school etc. I know there has been EXTENSIVE discussion on this before, but no one has said what the DEFINITE problem is and if it only relates to the EX.

Even though I have an LX coupe, I think there might probably be soon a cause for a recall on '01+ EX's because I've heard about so many problems from other people.

I obviously can't be certain but I think the immobilizer system w/the chip in the key is the culprit.

There are a few threads about ignition failure. Someone said that our ignition system is pretty shitty, but i have no idea.

I have an 02 LX coupe and it only failed to start once in the 9 months i've had it.

Anyone willing to go argue at the dealership?

ok, i hope you are having the same problems im having so i don't have to start a new thread.

I have an after market alarm that was professionaly installed. For the past 3 or 4 months i have been having problems with my car starting, and finally today i had a car toys place look into it. They checked everything they could, from the starter kill to the alternator. They found nothing related to the alarm. I have known half the reason why my car isn't starting is because the full pump doesn't kick in, but being that our full pumps are electrical they don't just cut in and out when ever they damn well please. They will either work or they don't.

Im calling Honda tomorrow and having them look at this damn thing cause it is really starting to get on my nerves. My next idea to the problem is like was said above, the damn chip in our keys, i don't think the chip it self in the key is the problem becasue i don't believe they can get ***** out over time, so i think it is the sensor or something inside the key hole. I have had to deal with this **** for too long and finally now that i have time im gonna try and get it taken care of. BTW i have a 01EX coupe

Uh, is your car not starting or not igniting? It's it's only not starting, but still igniting, then try letting the car sit for a couple seconds with the key turned to on. This will let the fuel pump do its work. If it's the ignition that isn't working, then I would start by checking all the wires. I kinda doubt that it's the immobilizer that's causing the problem, but I'm sure that there is a way to bypass it with the help of a mechanic. Good luck!

I'm wondering...has anyone had the starting problem with an automatic?

It does it every now and then with my 02 HX.

my problem with my car not starting is in the alternator. the alternator in the 7th gen civic cannot handle the extra load from an aftermarket stereo system. for some reason it is not charging the battery properly so in the morning I end up with a dead battery. mine is an '02 and this has happened on numerous occasions. I have temporarily solved the problem by shutting everything electrical off, revving it at 2,000 rpms for a minute or two, and then turning the car off. I will be getting a higher amp alternator soon. this never happened with my '96.....

Yes PESTLNC mine is an slush box, and it fails to starts. Just cranks and cranks. Weird thing is, i take the key out and reinsert it, it will restart. And has nothing to do with time, cause i can leave the key in there, crank -- and release the key, an turn the key again, and it wont start unless i take the key completely out and re-insert.

ok, just a quick update on my car, it has been at the shop for two days now. the problem with mine is that it is just not igniting after the fuel pump has pressurized, hence the reason as to why mine doesn't restart 1-45 mins after i turn it off. tomorrow they are doing a ten page diognostic as to see if it is either the ecu, or the distributer. Ill update tomorrow if they tell me what the deal is, however it sounds like i have a different problem then you all have.

Are you sure about this dude...I NEVER had problems with the factory battery (besides the fact that the voltage would drop to ten volts when I had the music all the way up) I have played my radio with the car off and on, and never a starting problem. Are you running more then 1500 watts to your system dude? Maybe you got a bad alternater?

I'm a recall coordinator. My job is to apply the formula. It's simple arithmetic.

You take the number of vehicles in the field (A) and multiply it by the probable rate of failure (B), multiply the result by the average out-of-court settlement (C). A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don't do one.

In the case of the Civic, even with the number of problems that occur it's still cheaper for us to repair then under warranty. A recall would cost millions.
