Hello Shortie22,
I am taking my car to the dealer tomorrow 02/05/03. I described the problem. They would not comment without seeing the car. I am hoping they will be accomodating. Stay tuned.

Well...
I presented my case to the Honda dealer. They could see the burn marks on the connector. For a while the lights did NOT work, but then they wiggled things around for a while, and now they say they are working. They admit this is no guarantee they will continue to work. They are presenting a case directly to Honda (this goes beyond the dealership), particularly re: the burn marks on the connector, to see what Honda says. One difficulty, the car had been hit when in a parking lot, so they are indicating that there could be some relationship between that and the burned contacts???

I was asked to call back in a few days to see how Honda has responded.

No $ charge so far, but I still don't consider the problem fixed.

I'm really curious if yours or Rodneys' contacts have the same problem.
Rodney??

Stay tuned...

The same **** happened to me today.... Both went out. I replaced the bulbs with the factory ones and now they work.

I wouldn't stress it.

alright fellas check this bullsh!t out...i go to john eagle honda today and showed them the burnt connections (yeah i have the burnt pin 6).....so they started telling me that the bulbs were the problem and that the bulbs burned the pin....so i say that if the bulbs were the prob then the highs would have burned out too right (low beams = lower wattage....high beams = higher wattage...makes sense right) well he says not necessarily (whatever) so i tell him to jack of% and ask how much the harness is so he tells me they have to sell me the entire dash harness which consists of a lot of harnesses...so i tell him to jack of% again ($166.60) for only one harness......so any way i go home to see if i can ghetto engineer something....so i am playing around with the solution my new best friend (Gardener) posted.....and i am grounding the different pins and tada low beams (i feel like i won the WWE Championship HA!)....but then the bullsh!t happens i leave the wires grounded and no beams after a second(WTF!!!!!) after so long i have tried to fix this problem and i get so close and it happens again....
so here we go i am playing with it again and it doesnt work anymore so now i think i really f@cked something up.....so i just reconnect the harness and just for kicks i turn on the low beams and they come on(guess who just won the WWE Championship again) so i turn them off and turn them on and off and on and off....and they keep working dont know what happened but i drove all the way to work with them on at 4 in the afternoon...hopefully they never go out again.....props to Gardener (THE Man!!!)

Rodney,
Do you know the wattage of the bulbs you were using? Were they a higher wattage? If not, that should not explain the burnt contacts. I am still pursuing this with my local Honda dealer. I hope to know more Friday 2/14.
Your low beams may have gone off because one of the wires lost contact (could have been the relay connection).
Mine are temporarily working, but I think it's just because remaking the contacts might scrape off some corrosion, etc. I would not count on mine or yours continuing to work.

Please save your failing connector in case you do get around to replacing it. I am also pursuing other options to document this problem. I may need your help.

Thanks,

Gardener

Hello shortie22,
Please save your parts and receipts if they replace the wiring harness.

ok the guy installed a new ground harness, he said he could trace it but that could take hours and he would have to charge me

so right now the lamps are working fine and he said i shouldnt have another problem with them i'll keep an eye on em though

also said that i had an open ground circuit in the old lamp harness?? ever heard of that

Shortie22:
If by "old lamp harness" he means the harness that connects to the light switch, pin 12 is the ground connection. If it was completely bad, all your lights would not have worked. Do you know what "ground harness" he replaced? I hope he really fixed your problem!

My Honda dealer agreed to split costs with me, but he wants to replace the switch. I think the problem is in the harness. I am pursuing what it takes to force a recall for this problem. Don't know how successful I will be. I consider it a safety hazard for your lights to go out due to a manufacturing defect (not simply a blown fuse). This is why I am suggesting saving all parts and receipts. This is a slow process. Meanwhile, my lights are still working.

wuz up fellas i took my car to another honda dealer and the service manager says he will probably just fix the harness for me. the initial person i talked to was this old lady that was just a b!tch about the entire thing saying i never should have looked at the connector and as soon as i had a problem should have taken it to them....anywayz i am supposed to go monday morning and they say it should be ready by that afternoon if everything is ok so i will keep you guys notified and gardner let me know if i am correct but you dont have any modifications at all do you...the lady was trying to blame the problem on everything from my radio to my amp and sub installation even the clear headlights so just checking

Congratulations, Rodney. Glad to know they are making yours right.

I have no modifications. The front end was hit in a parking lot, broke the headlight, then replaced with after market equivalent. At first the dealer tried to link my problem to the accident.
My dealer said they could not "fix" the harness. The whole thing would have to be replaced, and as you know, expensive. I have the paperwork from NHTSA to register a complaint / safety issue. I am trying to thoroughly document the problem.

Rodney, are you still in warranty? Can you get the old harness connector? I may look into repairing it myself and could use the spare pins from your connector. I am happy to pay you for it. I also would like to try and take pictures for the NHTSA documentation.

NEW UPDATE!!!! finally got the issue resolved with the dealer....after fighting with them for about 3 hours and them talking to "the man" over at Honda....this problem will be fixed by the dealer at no cost to me....now we all know my story about the aftermarket bulbs....but the old lady that took my car in basically called me a liar about the bulbs in my car now thats okay though cuz i got her azz.....that was f@cked up the way she handled me....if anybody here goes to gillman honda to get their car serviced dont got to the old lady named christine cuz i had the worst customer service experience of my life with her but her manager got her azz too HA! just waiting on the part to come in and it will be taken of.

Rodney,
Any update on your fix. Since you're under warranty, Honda may not let you have the bad parts. Please ask for them, however, if you don't mind.
Thanks,
Gardener

I have aproblem with my headlights, but they both don't go out just the left one. I have havd my car for 7 months and its gone out a 2 times. I just switch and put tyc headlight assembly in there, same wattage, but different bulbs, and the left one went out again. I am bringing it to dealer next week. Think he will say its the headlight assembly? I do!

Curious,
There are 2 relays, 1 for left and 1 for right. Perhaps left relay contacts are bad. If this is the case, your high beams would also not be working on the left side.
